Immigrate to Canada from Dubai: What, Why & How to Apply for Canada Immigration

The United Arab of Emirates (UAE) comes fifth in the list of countries of residence of Canadian immigration candidates via Express Entry. For one, it busts a popular myth that Canada only attracts skilled workers from third-world countries. It is, thereby, opening new opportunities to immigrate to Canada from Dubai. However, the point in contention is while the UAE is itself in the pursuit of attracting highly skilled immigrants, why should its residents look elsewhere and apply for Canada immigration.

Canada-immigration-news

Backed by the views of immigration experts, we suggest that the tiered visa system in UAE mostly favors temporary residence only. Whereas Canada permanent residency is always on offer for any eligible skilled worker including Nurses, Engineers, Architects, Software Developers, Management Professionals, etc. with suitable work experience. They necessarily need not have a prior work experience in Canada. Many Emirati citizens and foreign ex-pats may choose to settle in Canada for a chance of qualifying for citizenship eventually.

The following sections will give you an overview of Why Canada is an attractive destination for UAE immigrants and how you can immigrate to Canada from Dubai and what you need to apply for Canada immigration.

Official Language of Canada is English

Canada makes use of English and French as its official languages. English language teaching in UAE starts from middle school and continues until the end of high school. Also, English language courses for students are easily available. UAE immigrants’ good English language skills allow them to adapt and integrate more quickly.

Increased Immigration Reception Capacity in Canada

Canada is pursuing the most ambitious plan to welcome 431,645 permanent resident admissions this year. Last year alone, it succeeded in admitting more than 405,000 new permanent residents. The increased immigrant reception capacity in Canada may result in more than 1.7 million new Canadian permanent residents in the next three years.

The fact that Canada is experiencing ageing demography and a low birth rate among the Canadian population makes the intent of the government to achieve these targets even more genuine.

Safe Learning Institutions and Immigration Pathways for Students

One of the many benefits of Canada immigration is its public education system called K-12. It provides high-quality and equal educational chances for all people, regardless of their ethnicity, race, and background. Immigrant students in Canada reported higher reading levels than non-immigrant students.

Aspirants from all over the Middle East can pursue their higher education in some of the top 100 universities in the world which are based in Canada. These institutions include the University of British Columbia, McMaster University, University of Toronto, and McGill University,

You will be amazed by the fact that Canada also has the highest retention rate with over 60% of international student graduates qualifying for Canada permanent residency within 10 years. International graduates who complete an eligible full-time program of at least eight months in duration may be eligible to get a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), which allows them to gain Canadian work experience. This opens up their pathway to apply for Canada immigration and qualify for Canada permanent residency.

Cultural Diversity in Canada that Suits UAE Immigrants

Canada is home to immigrants with different nationalities, religions, languages, and races. Successive governments at the federal and provincial levels have embraced it with pride since the modern immigration system begin in Canada in the 1970s.

To top that all, Canada ranks above average in parameters like housing, subjective well-being, personal security, health status, social connections, environmental quality, jobs and earnings, work-life balance, education and skills, civic engagement, income, and wealth, as per the OECD’s Better Life Index.

Now that the WHY part of immigrating to Canada from Dubai is answered, let’s move on to the WHAT & HOW part of applying for Canadian immigration.

Monthly Review: Canada Immigration Nomination Draws in February 2022

Canada revised its immigration levels plan for 2022-2024 and now targets to welcome about 1.7 million new immigrants in the next three years. The new plan also promises an advantage to the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) to issue eligible nominees the Canada permanent residency.  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is said to let Canada PNP take the center stage in inviting more than 83,500 immigrants to apply for Canadian immigration in 2022. In fact, Canada is more dependent on the Provincial Nominee Programs to meet its annual immigration targets ever since the pandemic.

Canada-immigration-news

With Canada showing potential to improve immigrant outcomes in essential sectors, planning your skilled-based immigration to Canada should be your number one priority in current times.

In this edition of Canada immigration nomination draws, we are discussing nearly 5000 invitations to apply for provincial nominations and another 2,152 ITAs for Canada permanent residency during the month of February 2022.

Immigration experts view these developments as a sign of relief as more new aspirants can be expected to immigrate to Canada in near future.

Canada Permanent Residency Under Express Entry in February 2022

Somewhere in the whole nomination draw in 2021, the preference for candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is still being sidelined. Off-late, for the last six Express Entry draws, candidates qualifying under Canada Experience Class (CEC) are also not targeted.

Now it is believed that Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will resume FSWP & CEC invitations in the “near term”, as said by the immigration minister Sean Fraser.

FSWP Express Entry provides a direct immigration pathway for skilled foreign workers even without a job offer or work experience in Canada to obtain permanent residence (PR).

Last month, Canada Express Entry only invited registered candidates with successful provincial nominations to apply for permanent residence.

Express Entry Draws – February 2022
Draw Number Canada Immigration Nomination Draws  Qualifying CRS ITAs issued
#216 February 16 PNP-specific: 710 points 1,082
#215 February 02 PNP-specific: 674 points 1,070

Canada Express Entry is a long-drawn (maximum one-year validity) two-step process.

All registered profiles are assessed and ranked on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Core human factors such as age, education, language skills, and work experience are used to calculate a CRS profile score.

The second step will involve the fortnightly nomination draws held by IRCC. The high-ranking candidates based on the CRS score get invitations to apply (ITA) for Canada permanent residency.

Further, candidates with an active Express Entry were extremely benefitted as provincial nomination will give them a chance to gain an additional 600 points towards their overall CRS score. This would effectively guarantee them an ITA for Canada PR in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

Canada PR via Provincial Nominee Programs in February 2022

Since its launch in 1998, the Provincial Nominee Programs have become the second main route to permanent residence in Canada.

The unique arrangement between the federal and provincial/territorial governments in Canada, except in Quebec & Nunavut, allows the nomination of foreign candidates separately based on the unique labor demand of each province.

By 2024, more than 93,000 immigrants per year are expected to be admitted as permanent residents through various Provincial Nominee Programs.

ALBERTA

A total of 750 candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination on January 18 and February 1 under the Alberta Express Entry stream. Additionally, Alberta announced a name change for the department and the launch of two new streams under its Provincial Nominee Program to boost immigration to rural areas of the province.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) continued to hold its weekly draws. The province invited 624 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination under various streams like Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration, the Tech stream.

With the turning of the tech pilot program into a permanent immigration program, aspirants can expect more nominations of specific foreign tech workers to immigrate to Canada.

MANITOBA

The province of Manitoba held a draw under Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream, and Skilled Workers Overseas streams, issuing a total of 551 Letters of Advice to Apply issued of which 134 were issued to candidates who declared a valid Express Entry profile.

NOVA SCOTIA

278 Nurses whose occupation falls under NOC 3012 and already have active Express Entry profiles got invitations to apply for provincial nominations.

ONTARIO

Ontario alone let out multiple Canada immigration nomination draws in February. The most immigration-friendly province invited 3,176 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination, more than any other province.

All draws came under one of the following streams: Ontario’s French-Speaking Skilled Worker, Express Entry Human Capital Priorities, Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker and In-Demand Skills, Entrepreneur Stream, or Express Entry Skilled Trades.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

PEI PNP went as per its pre-scheduled draws, rather with a larger draw size in November. A total of 123 eligible candidates are under Express Entry, Labour, and Business Impact candidates.

Best Immigration Consultants to Simplify your Canada Immigration Journey

Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, in a recent interview, seemed confident and prepared to increase Canada’s immigration levels if it is necessary to address labor shortages. Fraser sought support from local businesses and communities to increase the immigration levels, adding that he is “very much open to” even higher levels to accommodate more foreign migrants in Canada.

This brings us to discuss the importance of hiring certified consultants for simplifying your Canadian immigration. Certified Immigration Consultant like CanApprove can help you & highly recommended to qualify for Canada immigration nomination draws if you have been:

Secure Your Future with Canada Family Sponsorship Visa Programs

Canada has achieved excellent success in the past with its economic-class immigration programs. Canada Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Programs have been the major source of skilled immigrants aspiring for permanent residence in Canada. In more recent years, the policy is shifting course to explore ways to improve intakes under the Canada family sponsorship visa programs.

Canada immigration news
For instance, the
new mandate letter from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser asked to explore programs for temporary residence to spouses and children abroad while they await the processing of their permanent residence applications.

As the country is in pursuit to achieve another ambitious annual target of 411,000 landings in 2022, it is equally dependent on family immigration programs. In this blog, we will discuss various sponsorship visa programs to settle with your family in Canada.

Immigrant Children Earn More than Canadian average: Statistics Canada

A new study by Statistics Canada shows most immigrant children enrol themselves for postsecondary education and by virtue of it, make more money after their mid-20s than the overall Canadian population.

To show it in numbers, at age 25, immigrants admitted as children of economic immigrants had about 11% higher median wages ($33,700) than the overall Canadian population ($30,290) of the same age. At age 30, economic immigrant children immigrants had median wages of $55,500, about 29% higher than the overall Canadian population at $42,940.

The findings undoubtedly open a new chapter for aspiring immigrants to settle in the country under Canada family sponsorship visa programs.

Sponsor your Spouse to Canada from the UAE under Canada Family Visa Program 2022

To be eligible to sponsor your spouse to Canada from the UAE including any dependent children, you need to be:

  • over the age of 18,
  • a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and
  • be able to financially support you and your family.

It is possible for Canadian citizens to live in the UAE throughout the spousal immigration to Canada process. However, Permanent residents must apply for spousal sponsorship from inside Canada.

Your spouse may be eligible for an Open Work Permit in Canada while applying for spousal immigration from the UAE.

There is no minimum income cut off for spousal immigration to Canada from the UAE. The threshold on minimum income is decided on a case-by-case basis. It will generally apply to cases where the partner you’re sponsoring has a dependent child. And who also has a dependent child of their own.

Go through our previous blog for documents required and learn more about the factors for the rejection of spousal immigration to Canada from the UAE.

About the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) Canada Family Sponsorship Visa 2022

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada. Approved parents and grandparents under this program may obtain permanent residency. Further, doors to apply for Canadian citizenship will also open.

IRCC will process PGP applications in between 20-24 months, even in 2022.

Additionally, IRCC will assess a Sponsor’s Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) to ascertain that they have sufficient income. This is to support all family members for whom they will be financially responsible, including themselves, once they become sponsors.

A signed undertaking for the period of up to 20 years will be required from interested sponsors. This undertaking sets out how long the sponsor will be financially responsible for the family members. And they are sponsoring from the time they become permanent residents of Canada.

Other Canada Family Sponsorship Visa Option

Canada Super Visa is another significant option to consider for family reunification in Canada. The Super Visa allows your parents and grandparents to enter Canada multiple times over a 10 year period.

Canada Immigration: More than One Way To Apply for Canada PR in 2022 & Beyond

The million-dollar question still remains, ‘when will IRCC resume regular Canada Express Entry draws?’ Since December 2020, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have not issued Express Entry invitations to Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) candidates. Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates have not received invitations to apply for Canada PR since September 2021.

Canada immigration news

To give you some perspective, Canada Express Entry is the single largest source of foreign immigrants in Canada since its launch in 2015. FSWP is the most preferred economic-class immigration program under the Express Entry. Off-shore candidates with no prior Canadian experience can apply for Canada PR via FSWP. A recent study estimates that nearly 80 per cent of Canada Express Entry candidates fall under the FSWP category. On the other hand, on-shore applicants with at least one year of work experience in Canada qualify for Canada PR through the CEC program. Mostly, recent international graduates qualify for this economic-class program.

So an internal IRCC memo released last week caused speculation and confusion on how the department will manage Canada Immigration in 2022, more specifically Express Entry in 2022 and beyond. IRCC hints at a possible reduction in Express Entry admissions to accommodate other ministerial and departmental priorities.

While we wait for the new Immigration levels plan to be announced by February 14, 2022, this blog aims to leave you with the best possible way to apply for Canada PR in 2022 & beyond.

Canada Express Entry Draws After the Pandemic

Express Entry draws for Canada PR reinvented itself right after the pandemic. IRCC is now focussing on inviting temporary residents to apply for Canada PR. Such candidates either qualified under Canada Experience Class or under any one of the Provincial Nominee Programs.

A departure from the previous Canada Express Entry draws is noticed. IRCC says 42% of invitations in 2020 went to candidates who had Canadian education, up from 28% in 2019.

So, should you plan your higher studies in Canada to easily qualify for Canada PR?

Click here to read our analysis.

All the invited candidates in Canada Express Entry PNP-draw have demonstrated their connection to a province or territory. It is through familial ties, work experience, or study experience in that province or territory. In order to qualify for the CEC program, temporary skilled workers or recent international graduates must have had at least one year of work experience in Canada.

Off-late, IRCC is giving undue preference to PNP candidates even as major Express Entry programs are still suspended. It is mainly to support and realize the immigration goals of the provinces and territories that otherwise would fail. Canada Express Entry draws in 2021 invited nearly 114,431 immigration candidates to apply for Canada PR.

Current Express Entry Backlogs

Canada Express Entry backlogs have grown due to reasons such as previous travel restrictions. IRCC’s focus to transition those already present in Canada to permanent residence has also added to the backlogs.

An estimated 76,000 Express Entry persons will be on inventory at the start of 2022. The number is significantly high and in principle, IRCC may require no new Express Entry “intake” for at least the first half of 2022.

Apply for Canada PR in 2022 & Beyond

Options like Quebec immigration, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) surfaces as the best alternative for permanent residence in Canada.

Quebec has returned to the target of welcoming over 50,000 immigrants in 2022 after four years of cutting immigration by 20 percent. About 65 percent will arrive through economic-class immigration programs. The major advantage here is that Quebec runs its own immigration program independently of the federal government. However, the final say on who gets permanent residency lies with the federal government.

PNPs are a two-step immigration process to Canada. First, you apply to the province or territory, then if you get a nomination you can use it to apply for permanent residence. Get in touch with CanApprove to learn more about your prospects to apply for Canada PR via PNP.

Canada Immigration Made Simple with CanApprove

However, IRCC will not necessarily stop inviting more Express Entry candidates this year since “intakes” and “invitations” are two different metrics. Due to the prolonged nature of this process, IRCC will continue to issue more Express Entry “invitations” in the meantime.

As a certified immigration consultant, CanApprove will not discourage you to enter the federal Express Entry pool now but offer suggestions to apply for Canada PR in 2022.

4 Benefits of Hiring a Certified Immigration Consultant To Apply for Canada Immigration

The famous lines of Ken Blanchard, “None of us is as smart as all of us“, blends perfectly well with our topic in the discussion. Even though the Canadian government has simplified its online portal to apply for Canada immigration on your own with the likes of program guides, online form submission, timely online updates, etc., having an expert immigration consultant alongside can boost your chances of qualifying.

Canada immigration news

Caution must be exercised before hiring an immigration consultant to help you apply for Canada immigration or any other. The consultant for hire must be certified or licensed by competent authorities of the destination country. Say, CanApprove is a certified or licensed immigration consultant, duly recognized by the College of Immigration. And Citizenship Canada (CICC).

The process of applying for Canada immigration can extend for months. Engaging a certified immigration consultant can help you manage time better.

Applying Through An Immigration Consultant Is Optional

The Government of Canada treats all immigration applications alike, whether applied through a consultant or not.

Having said that, applying for Canada immigration on your own can invite a higher risk of visa rejection because

  • Your lack of first-hand experience may force you to adopt the wrong procedure.
  • You may fail to analyze your work/academic profile to select the right visa program.
  • Determining a relatively similar National Occupation Classification (NOC) in Canada may be challenging for immigration purposes.
  • You may not be able to keep up with the form submission deadlines.
  • You may be left unaware of changes in immigration laws/policies.
  • You may be misled by online forums or worst fall into a financial scam.

Certified Immigration Consultant like CanApprove can help you & highly recommended if you have been:

  • rejected previously or
  • have a potential medical inadmissibility concern or
  • you’re applying through a complex immigration program or
  • you may have a unique case in hand or

Going further, you will know the benefits of hiring an immigration consultant to boost your chances of qualifying.

Benefits of Hiring a Certified Immigration Consultant

  1. Worry not about which Visa to choose:

You may find yourself eligible for more than 2 immigration programs at once. A qualified and experienced PR immigration consultant can solve your confusion. Based on your work or academic profile and its demand in Canada, an immigration consultant or a PR consultant can help you, which otherwise may be difficult even with the help of free online forums.

  1. Resolving complex issues in your application:

After eligibility check, the first stage of a Canada visa is Educational Credential Assessment. We find many candidates stuck here because of the sealed transcripts requirements.

Though there is nothing complex about it, getting help from a genuine & licensed immigration consultant can save you time. A certified immigration consultant may also help you with possible solutions when your NOC is not correct and in other similar issues.

  1. Suggest suitable alternatives:

Sometimes you can be unlucky to not get selected even after meeting all the eligibility requirements.

In scenarios like these, a certified immigration consultant can add genuine hopes with alternative options that help you migrate to Canada through other visa programs. They can even suggest measuring to increase the scope of the current visa process to improve your chances of selection.

  1. Noting even the finest of details in your application to avoid rejection:

Aspirants applying for Canada immigration on their own often miss accounting for dynamic factors in their life. While it may take more than a year in the waiting period, accounts of marriage, job change, or having a new kid, etc. must be timely update in your immigration application. A responsible immigration consultant will ensure to do this on your behalf once you inform them. Otherwise, there is a risk of rejection when your application is due for the process.

Immigrate to Canada in 2022: Your Options to Become a Canadian Permanent Resident

The year 2022 is finally here, and Canada immigration applications are considered for permanent residence at a record rate. Canada landed almost 400,000 new immigrants in 2021. However, the pandemic forced Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to favor more temporary residents to immigrate to Canada on permanent residency in 2021.

Canada immigration news

A successful “landing in Canada” means that a foreign national has now obtained Canada permanent residency visa. Getting a Canada permanent residency visa is not limited to individuals physically staying in Canada on temporary visas. It is equally applicable for eligible aspirants without work or study experience in Canada. IRCC offers more than 100 Canadian immigration programs to choose from.

Canada is currently pursuing its most ambitious Immigration Levels Plan in its history. It plans to welcome 411,000 in 2022, and an additional 421,000 in 2023. The new Mandate letter has already brightened the prospects of immigration to Canada in 2022 for most economic-class & family-class immigration aspirants.

The pandemic scare still lingers around. Canada is starting off the new year with record case counts of COVID-19. The federal government re-introduced the mandatory pre-arrival PCR test for incoming travellers. Most foreign travellers including international students and workers will have to be fully inoculated with recognized vaccines, starting this January 15.

As of now, international students, workers, and approved permanent residents are allowed to immigrate to Canada provided they follow the public health guidelines. Follow the Canadian government official information source on the latest travel restrictions as the coronavirus situation resurfaces.

Move Forward Your Canada Immigration Application with Express Entry Pathway

Since the launch of Express Entry in 2015, it has become Canada’s main pathway for economic-class immigrants. In fact, the Express Entry system is an application management system for three economic-class immigration programs:

  • Canadian Experience Class,
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program, and
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program.

If you are eligible for one of these programs, you may also be able to apply for a Provincial Nominee Program that is aligned with Express Entry. It increases your chances of qualifying for permanent residence as additional 600 qualifying points are added to your assessed profile score.

All the registered profiles in the Express Entry system are evaluated and assessed based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

You get more points for having a high language score, at least one year of skilled work experience, post-secondary education, and for being between the ages of 20 and 29. There are other factors that can boost your scores such as having French language proficiency, a sibling in Canada, or a valid Canadian job offer, among other things.

Get in touch with CanApprove to enter the Express Entry pool today.

Here, we would also like you to caution that not everyone who submits an Express Entry profile will be able to immigrate to Canada. IRCC only invites the highest-scoring candidates in the Express Entry pool to apply through bi-weekly draws.

For example, Canada only invited candidates who were eligible for the Canadian Experience Class or who had previously received a provincial nomination from a PNP in 2021 & 2020. The pandemic has also slowed down processing time at IRCC beyond the average nine months.

Immigrate to Canada Through Quebec Immigration Pathway

The Canadian province of Quebec and the federal government are in a special agreement for selecting candidates for immigration to Canada. Even though the French-speaking province of Quebec has its own immigration program, the federal government has the final say on who gets permanent residency.

You need a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), which is administered by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) to immigrate to Quebec. You can get the CSQ by applying for one of Quebec’s immigration programs such as

  • Quebec’s Regular Skilled Worker Program for French-speaking foreign workers in skilled occupations.
  • Quebec Experience Program is popular among French-speaking international student graduates from Quebec institutions as well as skilled workers.
  • Quebec Permanent Immigration Pilot Programs for food processing workers, orderlies, and tech workers in certain occupations.

Once you get your CSQ, you can move forward with your Canada immigration application to IRCC to obtain permanent residence.

Quebec has returned to the target of welcoming over 50,000 immigrants in 2022 after four years of cutting immigration by 20 per cent. About 65 per cent will arrive through economic-class immigration programs.

Provincial Nominee Program Provides The Best Alternative to Immigrate to Canada

Usually, immigration candidates who fail to qualify for Express Entry, choose the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) route to immigrate to Canada. Other than Nunavut and Quebec, every province and territory has a PNP.

PNPs are a two-step immigration process to Canada. First, you apply to the province or territory. If you get a nomination you can use it to apply to the federal government.

Get in touch with CanApprove to learn more about your prospects to immigrate to Canada via PNP.

The provincial and territorial governments design these programs to suit their own economic and population growth strategies. Ever since the launch of the Express Entry system, PNPs are classified into two categories:

  • Enhanced PNPs: Use the Express Entry pool to draw candidates; and
  • Base PNPs: Majorly for candidates whose professional experience falls under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels C and D, which are not eligible for Express Entry.

Starting January 01, Atlantic Immigration Pilot is now a permanent immigration program. Nearly 6,000 eligible candidates will be land annually to immigrate to Canada. Interested aspirants can plan to settle in the region including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador.

Immigration to Canada Helps Nova Scotia Breach 1 Million Population Milestone

Statistics Canada’s daily data revealed Nova Scotia’s population surpassed the 1 million milestones. The media release followed it saying immigration to Canada played a large part in the population’s growth. Nova Scotia’s population grew 5,696 in the first quarter of 2021, the largest increase in the first quarter since 1971. Most immigrants to Nova Scotia came from India, China, the Philippines, Korea, and the United Kingdom in 2020 through Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program.

Jill Balser, Minister of Labour, Skills, and Immigration, openly announced “We look forward to welcoming new people to Nova Scotia with open arms and experiencing the benefits of newcomers in all parts of the province.”

The Province is working to attract and retain more young people, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers in the field of healthcare, education, and construction.

Tim Houston, Nova Scotia’s Premier, in a media release expressed, “We all benefit from this growth with a greater tax base, new businesses and jobs, greater diversity and culture, and improved infrastructure.”

Immigration to Canada: Mandate Letter for Nova Scotia

Mandate letter dated September 14, 2021, indicates positive strategies to improve population levels in Nova Scotia.

The Premier of Nova Scotia tasked its Minister of Labour, Skills, and Immigration to increase the province’s population to two million by 2060. This is possible through a combination of inter-provincial migration as well as immigration to Canada programs.

Nova Scotia will target eligible immigrants to regional areas outside Halifax. Target groups will most likely include

  • Individuals who can work remotely and have the flexibility to move.
  • Current and former students who attend or attended university or college here and fell in love with the province.
  • Individuals who love the outdoors and have always dreamed of living a more laid-back lifestyle, close to the ocean.
  • People who have visited Nova Scotia as tourists.

Nova Scotia is also working towards the launch of a $2.5-million marketing initiative to promote immigration to Canada in near future.

Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program Targets 25,000 Newcomers Each Year

The Atlantic province attracts foreign talent with specialized skills or occupations that match identified labour shortages. The province also seeks to retain international students after they graduate from any institution in the province.

The Atlantic province now aims to attract 25,000 newcomers per year. With the province’s current immigration retention rate at 71 percent, the ambitious target seems achievable.

Any eligible foreigner can plan their immigration to Canada through provincial nomination from Nova Scotia in two ways:

  • the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), and
  • the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program.

Immigration to Canada Through Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program

Ever since the launch of the Express Entry system in 2015, all the Provincial Nominee Programs are categories into two streams: ‘enhanced’ & ‘base’ streams.

‘Enhanced’ stream offer registered candidates in the federal pool to be considered for provincial nominations. This guarantees permanent residency in Canada as additional 600 points are added to their overall qualifying score.

Eight different immigration streams under Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program include:

‘Enhanced’ PNP streams –

  1. Nova Scotia Experience: for candidates with their profiles registered in the federal Express Entry pool and work experience in Nova Scotia for at least one year;
  2. Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities: for candidates with their profiles registered in the federal Express Entry pool and who meet specific labor market needs;
  3. Labour Market Priorities for Physicians: for candidates with their profiles registered in the federal Express Entry pool and who have a job offer as a family physician or specialist physician;

‘Base’ stream targets candidates from a separate pool and delinked from federal Express Entry. It targets candidates with specific skills and experience for temporary residence in Canada.

‘Base’ PNP streams –

4. Physician Stream: for physicians who have a job offer in Nova Scotia and are not in the Express Entry system;

5. Skilled Worker Stream: for skilled workers who have received a job offer in the province;

6. Occupation In-Demand Stream: for workers with a job offer in an occupation that is deemed “in-demand;”

7. Entrepreneur Stream: for individuals who wish to start a business in the province; and

8. International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: for international graduates who wish to start a business in the province.

Immigration to Canada through Atlantic Immigration Program

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is now a permanent federal immigration to Canada program. It will open doors for additional 6,000 eligible candidates to apply for Canada Visa annually.

Atlantic Canada is comprised of four provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador.

To apply under the AIP, candidates must have a job offer from a designated employer. They must have also had an individualized settlement plan.

Year-End Review: Immigration to Canada Breaks All-Time Record, Your Strategy for 2022 & Beyond

As we bid farewell to 2021, Immigration to Canada brings you new beginnings & possibilities in 2022. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirmed that it has landed 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021. This is happening for just the second time since 1867 when Canada was founded as a country.

Canada immigration news

A successful “landing in Canada” translates to foreign nationals in Canada legally transitioning their status to permanent residents. While Canadian permanent residency is given to individuals physically present in Canada on temporary visas, any foreigner without Canadian experience can too qualify.

However, the pandemic forced IRCC to favour more temporary residents in Canada for permanent residency. The case was different before the pandemic, as many new permanent resident landings came to Canada directly from abroad.

Apart from federal immigration programs, Provincial Nominee Programs also performed well. Both British Columbia and Manitoba issued over 10,000 invitations to apply for provincial nominations throughout 2021. Other provinces like Prince Edward Island, Ontario remained active throughout, however, offered limited draw size.

With Atlantic Immigration Pilot becoming a permanent program and Saskatchewan opening a new EOI pool for International Healthcare Workers, the prospects to apply for Canada immigration seems bright.

Immigration to Canada: Why Choose It Over Country?

No country is fully embracing foreign immigrants post-pandemic.

Most developed countries like Australia are now adopting the immigration models championed by smaller & developed countries like UAE, Singapore. Thanks to their tiered visa program, they attract a good number of economic-class immigrants on temporary visas. However, only a few qualify for permanent residence.

Canada, on the other hand, has managed to maintain its pre-pandemic immigration policy. It maintains its stance on foreign immigration to attract more economic-class immigrants for permanent residency.

A permanent resident in Canada is on par with Canadian citizenship in terms of rights & duties. However, a Canada PR is abstained from voting in elections.

Here’s a short real-life story about an immigration couple.

Percsy and Agh, as reported in Bloomberg would once have been prime migrants for Australia. But as the couple studied to get the qualification and points to qualify for permanent residency, the goalposts shifted again, due to pandemic.

Eventually, the couple realized they would never reach a new level. They caught in a policy shift that saw the intake of skilled independent workers in Australia slashed to 6,500 people, from 46,000. They finally gave up hope and are immigrating to Canada, which offered them a permanent visa.

The steps taken by Canada towards gender equality is reaping benefits for its immigrants as well. Immigration to Canada for career women is now rewarding. A recent survey ranked Toronto as the number one city for career-oriented women.

Canada is also taking family reunification seriously. It plans to provide temporary residence to spouses and children abroad while they await the processing of their permanent residence applications.

Apply for Canada Immigration in 2022 & beyond: What Should Be Your Strategy?

Aspirants planning their immigration to Canada in near future have a good chance of qualifying. This is because the new mandate letter recently issued by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expects his Immigration Minister Sean Fraser to work towards:

  • Reducing application processing times for immigration to Canada.
  • Look out for the creation of more permanent residence pathways via Express Entry for international students and temporary foreign workers.
  • Diversify foreign immigration to Canada from clustered regions of Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec city to newer regional areas. This is to be done by creating new Municipal Nominee Program.
  • Create more opportunities for temporary work visas by establishing a Trusted Employer system.
  • Fast-tracking family reunification programs through electronic applications
  • Also, fulfilling a long due Liberal Party election agenda to waive off Canadian citizenship application fees.
CanApprove recommends you enter the federal Express Entry pool to apply for Canada Immigration, even if you score low on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Your profile is valid for 24 months and you can improve your CRS points anytime during this period. Furthermore, the unpredictable nature of recent nomination draws may result in lower CRS requirements to apply for Canada immigration.

being in the Express Entry pool, you may even qualify for provincial nomination. Such Canada Provincial Nominee Programs have a lower qualifying score. You receive an additional 600 CRS points on a successful provincial nomination. This is enough to guarantee your Immigration to Canada on permanent residence status.

The recently released Annual Report on Canada Express Entry 2020 noted an interesting trend.

IRCC data showed that 42% of invitations to apply for Canada PR in 2020 went to candidates who had Canadian education. This is near twice the number of invitations for immigration to Canada on PR in 2019.

So, will higher studies in Canada help you qualify for Canada PR easily?

Should You Apply for Canada Immigration on Your Own?

British Columbia’s culture combines a unique mix of European, Asian, and First Nations influences. Its eight regions each provide dynamic and diverse features.
