In the latest federal Express Entry draw held on January 22, which is the second Express Entry draw of 2020, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3400 Invitations to Apply(ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score was dropped by two points to 471 compared to the previous Express Entry draw held on January 8, 2020. Canada is expected to continue inviting a high number of candidates through Express Entry throughout this year having set a higher admission target for the current year and the coming year. While the Express Entry immigration target for 2020 is set at 85800, the target for 2021 is 88800.
As in the previous draws, tie-break rule was applied in the January 22 draw too, the time-stamp given being May 9, 2019 at 01:16:02 UTC. It means the draw did not invite all candidates with a minimum CRS score of 471. Only those who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.
Canada Express Entry
The federal Express Entry system was introduced by the Canada government in January 2015 for managing the applications through the three federal economic immigration programs– the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Those who wish to receive Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) must create an Express Entry profile. Each of these profiles is awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score out of 1200 based on various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency etc. The highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly. Though a job offer from Canada is not mandatory to qualify for Express Entry immigration, those who have one earns some additional CRS points.
Every Provincial Nominee Program in Canada has at least one stream/category linked to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System score points added to their total CRS score, which guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
