IRCC Provides 9,750 Nomination Certificates To Alberta For 2023

Alberta to increase its annual intake

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allows the province of Alberta to increase its annual intake figures to about 10,000. The intake target in 2022 was 6,500 nominations. But with the increased immigration intake targets, Alberta will now look to welcome:

  • 9,750 nominations in 2023.
  • 10,140 nominations in 2024
  • 10,849 nominations in 2025

All these nominations will be made under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The invited candidates will receive a provincial nomination and will be able to expedite their chances of obtaining Canadian permanent residence (PR).

Alberta needs more immigrants. We need them to help grow our communities, address labor shortages in key sectors and help continue Alberta’s economic success,” said Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Trade, Immigration, and Multiculturalism.

The overwhelming rise in annual intake follows Canada’s plan to boost the popularity of Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) among foreign skilled migrants.

Since October 2022, Alberta has opened up numerous new pathways and established priority processing mechanisms in an effort to attract more skilled immigrants.

While the Prairie province added 120,000 new jobs since the start of 2021, there are still about 74,140 positions currently available. Furthermore, the province faces a severe shortage of local talent to take up skilled jobs.

Alberta’s increased immigration intake targets will support the growing vacancies in the province. They are expected to bring new skills and experience that will help facilitate major industries such as Healthcare, Construction, Technology, Agriculture, and Tourism, among others.
