The number of nominations allocated to the states and territories of Australia for Subclass 190 – Skilled – Nominated visa as well as Subclass 491 – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa and the visa it replaced, Subclass 489 – Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visa, has been revealed in two separate Freedom of Information requests. The 190 and 491 visas, which are state or territory nominated, are part of the independent skilled migration program of Australia and they are also called General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas. These visas target skilled workers with experience in an in-demand occupation. However, the candidates are not required to be sponsored or employed.
