Canada Ranked First for Immigration and Investment in Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index 2021

Canada Ranked Top on Immigration and Investment

Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index for 2021 is out and Canada has been well-acknowledged for its relentless efforts to increase immigration, despite the pandemic.

The pandemic hit major immigration-friendly destinations like Australia, Canada, the UK, the USA equally with such destinations becoming hostile for new migrants temporarily. Even Canada’s population growth was slashed to the slowest pace in more than a century.

But as restrictions eased, Canada welcomed the largest number of newcomers in July since at least 2015 and repeated the same feature in September.

The Nation Brands Index takes into account the reputations of nations around the world based on six criteria: exports, governance, culture, people, tourism, and investment and immigration. This year, the index measured 60 nations and derived their survey results from 60,000 interviews.

Germany retained the top spot for the fifth consecutive time. Global respondents feel particularly positive about buying German products, the appeal of investing in German businesses, the employability of German people, the German government’s work to fight poverty, and excelling in sports.

This year, Canada is close behind it with top scores in Governance, People, Immigration, and Investment criteria.

Canada Overtakes the UK to Rank Second Overall

Canada overtook the U.K. to hold the second-place spot after Germany. This year, the U.K. dropped to fifth place overall. While the UK still maintains a positive overall ranking for perceptions of its culture, exports, and immigration, and investment, it had dropped in global perceptions of its people, and governance.

For the first time ever, the index ranked Canada top in immigration and investment categories.

It means that the respondents perceive the nation’s ability to attract immigrants, foreign workers, and international students more positively than others. It also reflects upon the positive quality of life and business environment in Canada for foreign immigrants.

Among the other criteria, Canada scored top marks for governance. It perceives the competency and fairness of national government to global issues like peace, justice, poverty, and the environment.

Holding the top spot in the people category too, Canada is now globally perceived as a nation of competence, openness, friendliness, and tolerance.

The Canadian government is only planning to add more than 400,000 new permanent residents each year by 2023.
