Ontario, one of the Canadian provinces which always comes up with some innovative plans to meet the needs of the provinces this time will be creating a new immigration stream for tech workers and a new immigration pilot program that will be focusing on attracting skilled immigrants to smaller communities which surround the province. This was announced by the Government of Ontario in its 2019 budget on the 11th of April.
This is one among the four priorities with regards to immigration in the province’s $163.4 billion budget. This is seen as the province responding to the needs of the employers of Ontario by taking initiatives to attract skilled workers through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
A New Stream Completely Dedicated for Tech Workers
Ontario has been witnessing a tech sector that has been booming for the past few years. Cities like Waterloo, Toronto & Ottawa have faced significant development in the tech sector and has been inviting more skilled professionals from all parts of the world. The about to be introduced stream for Tech Workers will help the tech sector of Ontario to attract highly skilled employees.
New Immigration Pilot Program for Smaller Communities
The budget introduced on the 11th of April also proposes to introduce a new immigration pilot program aimed to bring in highly skilled immigrants to smaller communities and thereby spread the immigration benefits to those communities.
It should also be noted that Canada recently came up with a Northern and Rural Immigration Pilot Program which is similar to AIP, helping small isolated communities (those outside Atlantic Canada) to recruit foreign workers.
Plans to Expand Eligible In-Demand Occupations
Ontario is also planning to include truck drivers & personal support workers under Ontario’s In-Demand Skills Stream. It should also be noted that this stream allows Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program to nominate foreign workers who have with them a permanent and a full-time job offer from an Ontario employer in one of the in-demand occupations.
Migrate as an Entrepreneur
Ontario has also made proposals to make changes to investment & basic net worth values for Ontario’s Entrepreneur Stream. The government of Ontario said that doing this will make Ontario compete better with other Canadian provinces.
Allocation for Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program every year receives an allocation from the Canadian Government which allows Ontario to nominate applicants for a provincial nomination from the Express Entry Pool. As of the year 2019, the allocation for Ontario is 6,900.
Ontario by modernizing its Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program along with other measures will be able to take in some of the most highly skilled workers for the province. If you are interested to immigrate to Ontario, get in touch with our experts and check your eligibility to immigrate for free!
