May 7 BC PNP draw invites 187 Express Entry, Skills Immigration candidates

The latest BC PNP draw held on May 7 invited 187 candidates belonging to Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC categories to apply for a provincial nomination from British Columbia. However, British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has not revealed the specific number candidates invited under each category.

The Skills Immigration candidates invited by the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) belonged to the Skilled Worker, International Graduate and Entry Level and Semi-Skilled categories. The Express Entry BC (EEBC) candidates who were invited belonged to the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories.

BC PNP Express Entry:

Candidates who have their profiles in the federal Express Entry system can apply for a provincial nomination from British Columbia under the Express Entry BC categories. The federal Express Entry system manages the admission of candidates through the three federal economic immigration categories– Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. The Express Entry candidates nominated by the BC PNP will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

The categories under Express Entry BC are:

  • Skilled Workers (including Health Care Professionals category)
  • International Post Graduates
  • International Graduates

BC PNP Skills Immigration:

Skilled and semi-skilled workers with work experience in high-demand occupations in British Columbia can obtain provincial nomination through BC PNP Skills Immigration categories. Candidates are invited on the basis of a points-based system and some SI categories do not require candidates to have prior work experience. The Skills Immigration categories under BC PNP are:

  • Skilled Worker Category
  • Health Care Professional Category
  • International Graduate Category
  • International Post-Graduate Category
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Category

The Skills Immigration candidates nominated by BC PNP will have their applications processed outside the Express Entry system.

SIRS

The first step for a candidate to receive provincial nomination from British Columbia under Express Entry or Skills Immigration categories is to register their profile with the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) of BC PNP. It is a points-based system that evaluates candidates on the basis of various eligibility factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency etc. However, most of the Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC immigration categories also require the candidates to have an indeterminate, full-time job offer from a British Columbia employer.
