Canada Opens 8 More Airports To Welcome International Flights

Canada opens airports to international travel

In a bid to welcome more foreign travellers in the post-pandemic era, Canada is opening eight more airports for international flights. The selected regional airports will resume normal operations to international flights from November 30.

The eight airports that are reopening include:

  • St. John’s International
  • John C. Munro Hamilton International
  • Region of Waterloo International
  • Regina International
  • Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International
  • Kelowna International
  • Abbotsford International
  • Victoria International

Some major airports in Canada are already open for international travel since the first phase of travel relaxations.

This measure will help ensure that travellers are able to access more regional airports for their international travels this winter while continuing to support the Government of Canada’s measured approach to re-opening our border,” said Transport Minister Omar Alghabra in a recent media release.

Things to Note Before Travelling to Canada

Canada is allowing fully vaccinated tourists from all over the world to travel to the country. As of November 3, 2021, Canada is open to fully vaccinated international travellers.

Fully vaccinated travellers are those who need to have received two doses of either the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine or the AstraZeneca vaccine, or one dose of the Janssen vaccine. Currently, Canada has not approved any other vaccine that may have been in use elsewhere in the world.

Prospective travellers to Canada may still need to follow certain guidelines before they could land in Canada.

Foremost, Travellers coming to Canada are required to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to their landing in Canada. All the required personal & travel documents must be submitted through the ArriveCAN mobile or web application.

Travellers are exempted from quarantine, however, may still be expected to prepare a quarantine plan, if selected at random by the border patrol. Unvaccinated individuals under 12 years old will be allowed to enter Canada without needing to quarantine if their parent or guardian is fully vaccinated and is accompanying them.

Ten major airports in Canada are already open for international travel include:

  • Toronto Pearson International Airport
  • Montreal-Trudeau International Airport
  • Vancouver International Airport
  • Calgary International Airport
  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport
  • Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport
  • Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
  • Edmonton International Airport

Anyone departing from a Canadian airport has to prove that they are fully vaccinated.

The upcoming border & travel relaxations are expected to benefit temporary workers, international students, and other individuals who are travelling for an essential reason. It is also paving the path for more immigration aspirants to actively apply for Canadian immigration.
