It’s now official and a well-expected move to add one more month of travel ban on foreigners seeking to enter the Canadian borders.
Canada opts to extend its ongoing restrictions for yet another month. The announcement comes at a time when the rate of infection in the country is yet to reach a peak. Find the official order here.
The Canadian border remains closed for foreign travellers who come to Canada for non-essential reasons such as recreation, tourism, or entertainment.
However, foreigners those who are exempt such travel restrictions are:
- Canadian citizens (including dual citizens) or permanent residents;
- certain people who have been approved for Canadian permanent residence;
- certain temporary foreign workers;
- certain international students;
- protected persons;
- immediate family members of Canadians; or
- anyone else who falls under the exemptions listed on the government’s webpage.

The Current State of Canadian Immigration
Meanwhile, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has innovated the conduct of its nominations and expression of interest draws for attracting skilled workers, entrepreneurs and students to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
In a recent press release, the Immigration Minister Mendicino exclaimed over 53,000 study permits during the last month. His government had eased out the study permit requirements to help international students in the upcoming online academic session. This also included liberalizing the post-graduation work permit criteria for existing international students.
The federal Express Entry system managed to issue over 70,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada in a single year. This is a record in itself considering the ongoing lockdown situation owing to COVID-19. In addition to it, are unique programs from provinces like Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island that have almost achieved their annual targets.
