New Pathways to Canadian Permanent Residence for Caregivers

Canadian PR Caregiver Opportunities

Foreign caregivers are becoming an important demand in Canada as the Canadian population is getting older and needs much attention than before. It should be said that IRCC has come up with ways to address this issue. Foreign Caregivers who entered Canada after the 30th of November 2014 and did not qualify for a Canadian Permanent Residence now have the opportunity through the new interim pathway which will come into effect from the 4th of March 2019 and be accessible until the 4th of June 2019.

What is this Pathway and Who Gets Benefitted?

This new Interim Pathway is for caregivers who have gained Canadian work experience since the 30th of November 2014. He/she should have worked as a home support worker or a childcare provider and should be falling under the National Occupational Classification Group 4412 or 4411. Below mentioned are the requirements an individual should meet to be considered eligible under the new Interim Pathway for Caregivers:

  • The applicants should be willing to reside outside Quebec.
  • He/she should be having language proficiency scores of at least CLB 5/NCLC 5 in either English or French.
  • A minimum of 12 months of full-time work experience in Canada since the 30th of November 2014 is needed.
  • Educational Credential Assessment is needed for credentials issued within five years before the date of application.

IRCC has also stated that there will not be any number of application restrictions for this particular pathway. IRCC witnessed a lot of foreigners finding out that they are not eligible to obtain a Canadian PR only after arriving in Canada. This pathway will be helping individuals to a great extent said IRCC.

New Pilot Programs Named Home Child Care Provider & Home Support Worker

The Canadian Government also announced that it will be introducing two new five–year immigration pilot programs which will provide an ideal pathway for the caregiver & their family members a path to immigrate to Canada and obtain a Canadian Permanent Residence.

The about to be introduced pilot programs later this year will allow family members to accompany caregivers to Canada. The spouse of the caregiver who is immigrating to Canada can obtain a work permit and children will be granted a Canadian study permit.

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada has stated that it will be accepting 2,750 principal applicants every single year under the Home Child Care Provider & Home Support Worker Pilots. IRCC in 2017 was aiming to eliminate 80 per cent of the remaining logged PR applications under the 2014 pilots. As of now, IRCC has eliminated 94 per cent of the applications and has reduced the processing time from a huge 60 months to 12 months.

Allowing caregivers to bring along their loved ones is a huge step forward. This eventually helps Canada meet the demands it has and also provides a better living for their immigrants & residents.
