Saskatchewan demands more autonomy over immigration from federal government

With an aim to streamline immigration in accordance with the ever-changing labour market demands,   Saskatchewan is demanding the federal government to give them more autonomy over immigration to the province. Saskatchewan is seeking more independence in matters related to immigration similar to Quebec. The immigration system of Quebec is more or less independent from the federal system as the province takes decisions for itself on immigration levels and controls economic immigration to the province.

The growth plan of Saskatchewan for the year 2030 envisages increasing the population of the province to 1.4 million, and adding another 100000 jobs.  It is impossible to achieve these goals without promoting immigration to the province. More power in matters related to immigration is expected to give the province the authority to change their immigration policies according to the demands of its labour market.

Saskatchewan PNP

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) allows the province to nominate eligible candidates for permanent residence in Canada. The province issues nominations based on the annual nomination allocations, which is the number of nominations allocated for each province by the federal government. The SINP has three major immigration categories, which are International Skilled Worker, Saskatchewan Experience and Business.  There are also several subcategories under these catering to candidates with different skill sets and qualifications.

The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination from Saskatchewan will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points added to their total CRS score. It guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw. The province also nominates candidates who do not have an Express Entry profile.

In the first three quarters of 2019, 12290 new permanent residents were admitted to Saskatchewan. Among them, 9385 were admitted through economic class while the remaining 1925 were admitted through family class. In 2018, a total of 15,510 new permanent residents were admitted to Saskatchewan that comprised 12,410 economic class immigrants and 1,985 family class immigrants.

If Saskatchewan gets more autonomy in matters related to immigration, the immigration system of the province would be entirely different and it is impossible to predict how it is going to affect the immigration prospects of candidates belonging to different categories. The best idea is to start the procedures for immigration as early as possible. Contact us to know more about Saskatchewan PNP and Canada migration.

Immigrants in tech industry choose Canada over US for immigration

Thanks to the stricter visa rules being implemented by the US, immigrants in the tech industry are increasingly choosing Canada over the US for immigration. This situation has proved favourable for Canada and more international tech workers are now preferring Canada over the US, which has resulted in the technology sector of Canada booming. Vast career opportunities and faster and simpler immigration procedures are increasingly attracting immigrants in the tech industry from different parts of the world to Canada.

The tougher immigration laws implemented by the Trump administration have made it harder for international tech workers to get US visas. The approval rate of the H-1B visa dropped from 92% in 2015 to 75% in Canada under the Trump administration. This has negatively affected the tech firms in Canada which are currently facing a scarcity of skilled tech workers to fill vacant positions.  On the contrary, Canada has been taking some serious efforts in the past few years to attract skilled tech workers from across the world to the country. The most important among these is the introduction of the Global Talent Stream under which visa applications from tech workers are processed within just two weeks.

Canada Immigration

Besides the low approval rate of visa applications, the delay in approval, as well as the high cost of application, is also turning immigrants in the tech industry away from the US. The high rejection rate has also made US companies reluctant to sponsor foreign workers.

Other than immigrants in the tech industry, many US-based tech firms are also moving northwards across the border with an aim to tap the easy availability of skilled tech workers in Canada. Major US tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, Intel and Uber have already expanded their presence to Canada or are planning to do so.

The Canadian city of Toronto has overtaken Silicon Valley as the fastest-growing tech city in North America. Though the tech industry in Toronto has been growing at a faster pace in the past few years, the stricter immigration rules of the US is further boosting the city’s tech industry. All these facts indicate that Canada has already overtaken the US as the most favourite destination for immigrants in the tech industry.

If you are a tech worker who is looking for better opportunities elsewhere, Canada is the right destination for you. Check your eligibility for Canada migration by filling our free online assessment form.

Why is 2020 the most favorable time for Canada tech immigration? Here are the reasons!

Canada’s tech sector is witnessing an unprecedented growth at a rapid pace and 2020 appears to be the most favorable time for Canada tech immigration. In the recent years, Canada has put in some serious efforts to boost the growth of its tech sector and promote tech immigration to the country. These efforts have brought in significant positive results and turned technology the fastest growing industry sector in Canada, at a pace that has already overtaken Silicon Valley in the US.

The demand for skilled tech workers in Canada has increased in proportion to the rapid growth of the tech sector of the country. Now the international tech workers increasingly prefer Canada over the US as their favourite career and migration destination. Major Canadian cities such as Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have already established themselves as major international hubs for emerging technologies as AI and clean technology. Moreover, international technology giants are expanding their presence to Canada, allowing the tech workers in the country to work in these organizations. Above all, IT sector in Canada offers competitive salary compared to many other sectors in the country.

Why tech workers want to move to Canada?

For many reasons, Canada is the right immigration destination for tech workers in 2020. USA, as a country for immigration has already lost its sheen owing to stricter immigration policies. But Canada is keen to welcome skilled tech workers to the country with open hands. Compared to the US H-1B visa, it is easier for a tech worker to obtain a Canadian work permit. The application procedure is also simple and transparent. At the same time the application procedure for the US H-1B visa is complex and lengthy and the holder has to usually wait between 10 to 15 years to obtain green card. Compared to this, it commonly takes only one year to obtain permanent residency in Canada.

Canada has also launched some exclusive programs to attract skilled tech workers to the country. Global Talent Stream under the Temporary Foreign Worker program of Canada is one such important program. Under this Stream, the work permit applications from tech workers are processed within just two weeks. Another major pathway for international tech workers to migrate to Canada is the provincial nominee programs and some of these conduct exclusive draws for tech workers.

Canada offers vast opportunities for international tech workers to grow in their career and enjoy a quality life. If you are a tech worker who wishes to move to Canada, contact the expert immigration consultants of CanApprove to find out the best immigration pathway to make your dream come true.

First Alberta Express Entry draw 2020 held on January 9 issues 150 invites

The first Alberta Express Entry draw 2020, which was held on January 9, saw 150 candidates receiving Notifications of Interest (NoIs) or invitations to apply for provincial nomination. The candidates who have received invitations through the Alberta Express Entry stream were required to score at least 350 Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) points to be invited.

Alberta Express Entry stream

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and nominate them for Permanent Residence in Canada. The Canada Express Entry system manages applications to the three federal economic immigration programs– the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who receive invitation in an Alberta Express Entry draw and successfully obtain provincial nomination from Alberta, will get 600 additional CRS points that would guarantee them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Alberta issues 150 invites

The minimum CRS score required for candidates to receive invitation in the January 9 draw was 350. This score requirement is too low when compared to the minimum CRS score requirement for the latest federal Express Entry draw held on January 22, which was 471. So Alberta Express Entry stream gives an opportunity to apply for Canada PR to even those immigration candidates who have a low CRS score.

Alberta Express Entry Stream Eligibility

To be eligible for provincial nomination from Alberta through the Express Entry stream, the candidates need to meet certain criteria. Though a job offer or previous work experience in the province is not mandatory, the stream gives priority to those who meet the following criteria:

• A job offer from an Alberta employer
• Work experience in Alberta
• A Canadian degree and a valid job offer
• A close relative residing in Alberta

Canada Provincial Nominee Programs is a favourable pathway for even those with a low CRS score. Check your eligibility for Canada migration through PNP by filling our free online assessment form.

Changes proposed for Australia Skilled Occupation Lists

The changes proposed for the Australia Skilled Occupation Lists have been revealed in the Traffic Light Bulletin released by the Australian Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business. These include removal/down-grading of certain trades occupations and adding some occupations related to personal care and elderly care to the lists. The proposed changes, if accepted, will come into effect in March 2020.

The Bulletin classifies those occupations which are likely to be removed from all Australia Skilled Occupations Lists as red occupations. These occupations once used to be popular among migrants and were in demand in Australia. Some red occupations are hairdresser, massage therapist and community worker.

Australia Skilled Occupation Lists are of three types: Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL). The occupations that are likely to be moved among these lists as part of the changes have been classified as orange. The orange occupations that are likely to be downgraded from MLTSSL to STSOL include Automotive Electricians and Motorcycle Mechanics, Painting Trades Workers, and Wall and Floor Tilers. Similarly, some other occupations that will probably be moved from ROL to STSOL include Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson and Real Estate Representative.

australia immigration

Occupations including Sales and Marketing Manager, ICT Project Manager, and Information and Organization Professionals are likely to be moved from STSOL to MLTSSL. This proposed change would enable 482 visa applicants to apply for permanent residency and give them a chance to apply for a Skilled Independent 189 visa.

Further, as per the proposed changes, the occupation of Geologist is likely to be moved from the STSOL to ROL. Similarly, occupations including Procurement Manager and Ship’s Master are likely to be moved from ROL to MLTSSL. This will enable the employers to sponsor employees outside of regional Australia.

Green occupations are those which are proposed to be added to the STSOL and these include Aged or Disabled Carer, Nursing Support Worker, Personal Care Assistant etc.

Further, the Department has recommended implementing a minimum salary caveat of AU $65000 per annum for bakers, pastry cooks, and fitter and turners.

The Department has also identified some new occupations which do not currently fit into the ANZSCO system and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has decided to bring these occupations under the following definitions:

Occupation not in ANZSCO ABS Determined Occupation Code
Block chain Strategist 261111 ICT Business Analyst
Block chain Planner/Manager 135112 ICT Project Manager
Data Scientist 224999 Information And Organisation Professionals NEC
Irrigation Manager 121213 Fruit or Nut Grower
