Immigration to Keep Alberta’s Workforce Strong for the Decades to Come

Immigration has become a pivot factor for the growth of the Canadian economy and not to mention all the daunting factors which state that the Canadian workforce will be ageing sooner, leaving behind an unresolvable & complicated situation.

But what one could find surprising is the fact that Calgary & Edmonton in Alberta will be having 43% of labour force filled up by people who are born outside Canada. Alberta is one of the most promising provinces of Canada and the two largest cities, according to the report by Statistics Canada have the largest labour force when compared with most of the major population centres of Canada.

Immigration patterns state that during the year 2017 about 31 per cent of people who worked in Edmonton & Calgary were people who were foreign born and this is predicted to ascend up to 43% per cent by the year 2036.

Not only the two large cities will be facing growth but also other parts of Alberta will be facing growth as well said Statistics Canada. The foreign workforce in other parts of Alberta was 12 per cent during 2017 which is projected to see a rise up to 17 per cent during the year 2036 and the reason being the common notion immigrants have that Alberta is a good place to immigrate to.

Alberta has people coming to the province every now & then, who participate in the workforce and thereby increase the province’s economic growth. Though the labour force participation rate is expected to fall outside of major cities, in Alberta, it is expected to surge moderately in the years to come, providing immigrants with an ideal situation to work & settle!

Canada invites 3350 candidates in the latest Express Entry draw

A total of 3350 candidate were invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the 113th Express Entry draw held on March 20. The Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS)cut-off threshold for the latest draw was 452 points. Compared to the previous draw held on March 7, the CRS requirement witnessed a slight drop, from 454 to 452.

As in the previous Express Entry draws, tie-break rule was applied in the March 20 draw too, the time stamp given being February 7, 2019 at 09:59:25 UTC. It implies that all candidates with a CRS score of 452 and above, who submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time, have been invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the draw.

With the latest draw, which is the sixth draw of 2019, the total number of invitations issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) so far this year has reached 21,200.

As per the updated Immigration Levels Plan for 2019-2021, Canada is planning to accept around 256,000 new immigrants through the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class– the three economic immigration pathways managed by the Express Entry, during the plan period. Canada is taking all efforts to meet the immigration targets for the current year. As part of its attempt to meet the immigration targets under the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will issue more invitations to eligible immigration aspirants from all over the world in the next three years. Recent Study Says Quebec Should be Restoring Its Annual Immigration Target to 50,000

A recent study conducted by the Institute of Research and Socio-Economic Information brought forth a conclusion that the government of Quebec should consider restoring its immigration targets to 50,000 newcomers per year. Recent happenings in Quebec especially in the immigration sector has been a much debatable topic and the study is a result of the same.

The Government of Quebec in its recent announcement mentioned that it is about to eliminate 18,000 pending Quebec Skilled Worker Program applications which were then asked to be processed by a Quebec Judge. It should be noted that Quebec’s government has also reduced its immigration target and the reason behind this being that the new individuals who come to Quebec are not being able to become a part of the society.

quebec immigration program

On the contrary, research shows that almost 60 per cent of immigrants who have been admitted to Quebec already speak English or French. A huge 82.2 per cent of economic immigrants who came to Quebec during the year 2010 were still found to be in Quebec after a long duration of five years which has brought to light that Quebec is one of the four provinces where the retention rate percentage is quite great.

Quebec’s ageing population is another factor that urges Quebec to increase the current immigration levels. The previous immigration levels had the employment rate going up and the immigration numbers were not a problem then. Cutting down the immigration level now could sabotage the growth process and bring the employment rate down.

Individuals who immigrate to Quebec are also better educated when compared to those who are not immigrants and a massive number of immigrants in Quebec now speak French fluently and are quite active in the labour market. The bottom line being Quebec should consider increasing its immigration target and set it to 50,000.

40,000 Newcomers Could Come to Rural Communities Due to Alberta’s Immigration Proposal

Alberta’s United Conservative Party proposed new immigration policies as a result of which over 40,000 newcomers are expected to come to the rural communities around Alberta. It is expected that this will be happening over the next four years.

Kennedy (Canadian Immigration Minister 2008 – 2013) stated that Alberta should be looking forward to harvest the power of immigration and the United Conservative Party will be doing the same. The immigration strategy that is about to be used to revitalize the province’s smaller rural communities are the Rural Renewal Program and the Rural Entrepreneurial Stream.

These two new streams when combined could bring in as much as 9500 plus new permanent residents to the rural communities every single year and the prime goal is to quicken the processing times, bring in talented overseas newcomers and entrepreneurs who could be creating jobs to people in the province.

Manitoba pnp

Alberta’s Rural Renewal Program

The Rural Renewal Program will be operating under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) and the communities that participate in the program will be able to have a look and nominate candidates. It should also be noted that economic immigrant candidates who are interested to settle in rural communities of Alberta will be given priority.

Alberta’s Rural Entrepreneurial Stream

This stream is for potential entrepreneurs who look forward to start off with a business in Alberta’s small rural communities which eventually would pave way for the creation of employment opportunities for people living there. Entrepreneurs would initially be given a two-year work permit and later granted a permanent residence on showing good-faith.

Kennedy stated that the plan of taking in 500 potential entrepreneurs per year which is 2000 for four years will bring in around 8000 newcomers when accompanied by spouses and dependent children. Taking into account these statistics, a minimum of at least 4000 jobs will be created in the communities.

Alberta is quite serious about the development of the rural communities around it and is looking forward to every possible opportunity for its growth.
