Migration to Australia Resumes from February 21 After Two Years of Closed Borders

Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison confirmed today the opening of Australia borders to all valid visa holders from February 21 onwards. Over the recent months, Australia gradually relaxed restrictions for long-term residents and international students, reviving skilled migration to Australia in 2022. 

“If you’re double-vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back to Australia,” said Morrison at a media briefing in Canberra.

Australia is ending border restrictions and will allow foreign travelers after almost two years since the declaration of a pandemic. Only countries like Japan, China, New Zealand, and several Pacific Island nations still remain closed to tourists. 

Skilled Migration to Australia in 2022 & Beyond

Prolonged border closures for almost two years cost businesses an estimated US$2.6 billion every month, according to the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“From construction workers to chefs, engineers to educators, and mechanics to managers, approximately one in three skilled occupations could be facing shortages if we don’t shift the dial on migration soon,” wrote Mr. Andrew McKellar, Chief Executive of the Chamber. 

CEO Alan Joyce of Australia’s main airline Qantas said in a statement the company was looking forward to restarting flights from more international locations soon.

Skilled Migration to Australia is heavily dependent on the Global Talent Independent Visa (GTI). The most appealing benefit of GTI is a Permanent Residency visa. It is expected to have a processing time of a few weeks as opposed to other Skilled Migration visas which can take months to progress.

Migration to Australia through State Nominations: Foreign-Trained Engineers & Healthcare Professionals in Demand
