How Standing Committee Boosts Immigration to Canada?

Also called CIMM for short, the Standing Committee oversees matters relating to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB).

Naturally, the committee is concerned with studies and reports on immigration to Canada from time to time. Among other things, they examine statute law, the backlogs of immigration applications, program and policy objectives, and effectiveness.

The leading political party in the government is not obligated to make any changes based on these studies. The committee is only to make informed choices.

For example, in the previous parliamentary session, CIMM conducted a major study of the COVID-19 impact on Canadian immigration. Some major recommendations to improve the immigration system included:

  • Modernizing the immigration system
  • Transparency, communication, accountability
  • Welcoming more international students
  • PR pathway for essential workers
  • Focus on Family sponsorship

The present government has already introduced some changes relating to these areas. Follow this page for the latest updates on immigration to Canada.
