Good week for candidates with Tech occupations including programmers and media developers (NOC 2174). Three provincial programs from British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia were seen actively inviting candidates from specific occupations for them to apply for a provincial nomination. A provincial nomination is a guarantee ticket to permanent residence in Canada.

First performance report on Express Entry

Since its inception in 2015, Express Entry has opened the pathway for several foreign skill workers with no prior work experience in Canada to obtain a permanent residence. Till date over 300,000 invitations to apply for Canada PR has been issued to eligible candidates. It is now the first time that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) has taken a performance stock of its exuberant claims. 

The report shows that the Express Entry candidates enjoy better job prospects than Non-Express Entry candidates. The employment rate among the Express Entry immigrants in the first year after immigration is 95% as compared to 87% for non-Express Entry immigrants. 

An Express Entry candidate is one whose profile is evaluated on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and has a uniquely determined qualifying score in each nomination draw. Further, they can apply for three immigration programs- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program ( FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). In addition to it, candidates with a Provincial nomination can apply for Canada PR under Express Entry. 

It must also be cleared that any eligible candidate can qualify to apply under FSWP or CEC without registering on the Express Entry system. However, the process will only require additional requirements and invite necessary delays in processing. 

Non-Express Entry candidates are usually immigrants with low job skills. Report found better career advancements in terms of employment incomes for them as well. 

Immigration Confidence Surveys

A recent public opinion poll by Environics Institute shows local Canadians have confidence in welcoming more immigrants to the growth of the country’s economy as well as the society. Most Canadian who were surveyed agree to the fact that the permanent migration of foreign skilled workers and business entrepreneurs are important to increase population levels in Canada.
