The Canadian Federal Government announced that the most looked forward Parents and Grandparents Program is about to reopen by the 28th of January and interested sponsors can start applying by expressing their interest.
The Canadian Parents and Grandparents Program, also known as the PGP, allows Canadian Permanent residents & citizens to sponsor their parents & grandparents to apply for a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa. IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) stated that an approximate of 20,000 Parents and Grandparents Program applications are to be processed this year in 2019.
Any individual who is willing to sponsor should have aged above 18 and should be a Canadian resident or citizen and should complete an online Interest to Sponsor form. IRCC also stated that it will process applications based on the order it receives, putting an end to the randomized lottery process that created a lot of controversies last year.
How Does Expression of Interest Work?
Expression of Interest is nothing but the process of notifying your position to become a willing sponsor. An individual who wishes to become a sponsor should at the beginning ensure that he/she fulfills the minimum requirements to become an eligible sponsor. A sponsor will also be required to upload their Canadian status as a document during the time of submitting their Expression of Interest.
Individuals who have submitted an Expression of Interest will be notified about whether they have been invited or not and once when they have been invited, they will be having 60 days to complete an application. The sponsor should also ensure that they are providing all supporting documents along with the application submitted.
The Canadian Parents and Grandparents Visa Program serves as an ideal option for those wishing to sponsor their parents or grandparents. To know more about the PGP program and its requirements, get in touch with our team of immigration experts now!
