    What is PNP?

Provincial Nomination Program is a Canada immigration stream that’s being run by the provincial governments and the central government of Canada. It was introduced in the year 1998 and this program completely focuses on meeting the labor shortage needs and population deficit in any particular province and aims at bringing in the right candidates to fit in the open positions. In the provincial nomination, the candidate when found to be eligible will be nominated by the province to apply for Canada Permanent residency. Upon being nominated, the candidate will be offered 600 supplemental points that will be added to the CRS score.

This stream is an alternative for express entry direct draw. If you are not able to meet the CRS cut-off of the express entry draw, you can apply for Canada PR through PNP. The process of PNP is similar to that of express entry but is limited to the provincial level.

    How to Apply for PNP?

Let’s break this down. Applying for Provincial Nominee Program is quite easy but not known so. To apply for a Provincial Nomination, you need to create a profile in the Canadian Express Entry portal. Thereby, you can show interest in provincial nomination for the selective provinces of your choice (or all). As you know there are 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada, and you may be nominated by any of the provinces (and territories too!).

This expression of interest for provincial nomination through express entry is not applicable for 3 provinces: 1. Saskatchewan 2. Manitoba and 3. Quebec. A dedicated profile can be created for Saskatchewan and Manitoba PNPs through their respective portals. And, given that, creating PNP profiles in the portals of these 3 provinces doesn’t necessarily need an Express Entry profile, while it is a necessity for the rest.

With your CRS evaluated, you can complete your express entry profile (and PNP profile) and upon profile creation, you will officially be in the candidate pool of all the provinces that you selected. That is all with the application.

    Eligibility for Canada PNP

To be eligible for Canada PNP, one should have created an Express Entry Profile (except for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec). The following are the attributes that are considered for CRS calculation,

    • Academic Qualification
    • Work Experience
    • Age
    • Language Proficiency

Note: All the Canada provinces will have their own requirements which have to be met in order to be nominated.

What happens after showing interest in the provincial nomination?

Once after Expressing Interest in provincial nomination, your profile will be evaluated. You will receive a notification from a particular province (or provinces) if you are shortlisted. Following its acceptance, you will have a checklist of documents to be submitted including the IELTS scorecard which will help you get a nomination.
Upon selection, you will be receiving ITA (Invitation to Apply) from the province to which you have applied and adding to your excitement, you will be offered 600 additional CRS points to your profile as a reward for your nomination. This will increase your Canada PR eligibility. After this, you can go for PR visa filing within 60 days and the rest, you know! That’s all. Wait for your visa stamping and pack your bags!!
