A global survey conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (BSG) and The Network released a report claiming Canada to be the most preferred destination by foreign immigrants, even surpassing the USA.
Canada topped the rankings overall leaving behind popular destinations such as the USA, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Singapore. Canada was highly ranked among respondents with master’s degrees and doctorates, workers with digital experience as well as those under the age of 30. Further, Tech and digital workers appear to be keen on working remotely.
“About 71 percent of tech workers said that they would be willing to work for a company without being physically present in the country. Canadian companies may be able to take advantage of this.”
COVID-19 pandemic has played a huge role in affecting where foreign workers prefer to work. The report collated survey results taken across 190 countries from about 209,000 participants.
Previously, another global survey conducted by Gallup, Inc. in the latter part of 2020 had placed Canada on the top of most preferred migrant destinations.

How Is Canada Better Than The USA For Immigration?
The most revealing findings from the survey is Canada now ranks on top of the USA in terms of preference for immigration among foreigners.
While the USA will always remain the powerhouse of Capitalism attracting thousands of foreign talent to work & settle, qualifying for a permanent stay visa or a green card is difficult.
Even international students who prefer to stay back after their graduation find the process of getting a green card in the USA cumbersome.
The report based its findings on two major factors for placing Canada ahead of the USA in immigration rankings.
First, the uncertain immigration policies under the previous Trump administration ironically continue to be under the new Biden administration.
Second is the general drop in interest among foreigners due to frequent social unrest related to long-standing racial injustice and police brutality issues. This kind of behaviour was manifested in the killing of George Floyd by a police officer last year.
On the other hand, Canada is a safe haven for immigrants. Working in Canada comes with many benefits, including a high-quality education for your children, taking advantage of Canada’s universal health care system, and enjoying Canada’s beautiful scenery.
Immigrants coming on study visas or otherwise some other temporary visa permits can gain valuable Canadian work experience that will make them eligible for Canadian permanent residence.
Say, for example, a Canadian work experience of at least one year can give you additional points through the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under Canada’s Express Entry system.
Additionally, there are 11 Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) that invite eligible immigrants to apply for provincial nomination. Such invites candidates are one more step closer to applying for permanent residence subsequently.

Further, there’re a lot of new immigration initiatives cropping up in Canada. For instance, the new immigration level plan aims to invite over 1.2 million new immigrants in the next three years.
About 60% of such immigrants each year are expected to come from economic-class programs like Federal Skilled Workers Programs, Canada Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Programs, etc.
Changes to the evaluation criteria of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) used for Express Entry profiles are aimed at increasing the francophone or French-speaking population outside the Quebec region by 2023.
The likely beneficiaries are foreign skilled workers with/without work experience in Canada, international students aspiring to study and settle in Canada, and foreign entrepreneurs looking to establish their business in Canada.
