New Entrepreneur Immigration Options For International Graduates in Alberta

New Alberta immigration pathway now open for international graduates

Great news for qualified international graduates from outside Canada, as a new immigration pathway under Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP), opens to receive Expressions of Interest (EOI).

The office of Alberta’s Minister of Labour and Immigration confirmed in an email to CIC News about the launch of the new Foreign Graduate Start-up Visa Stream on January 27, 2021. It also said that there is no set quota for applications, however, they reserve the right to limit application intake and provincial nominations under this stream.

 

An Expression of Interest (EOI) is a means for interested candidates to let AINP know their consent for a provincial nomination for permanent residence (PR) under a particular stream, in this case, the newly launched Foreign Graduate Start-up Visa Stream

 

Interested candidates are required to take a questionnaire while submitting EOI online. It includes a series of questions on their education, work experience, and proficiency in English or French, among other factors. Qualify For New Immigration Pathway With CanApprove

Interested candidates must have graduated from a post-secondary institution outside of Canada within the last 2 years and have an educational credential equivalent to a Canadian degree. Further, 

 

  • Work Experience: a minimum of 6 months of full-time work experience in the management or ownership of a business or work experience with a business incubator or business accelerator;
  • Business Plan: business plan with financial forecasts and a 10-minute presentation of the proposed business, focusing on what investors would like to see;
  • Language Proficiency: minimum CLB level of 7 for each skill in English or CLB of 7 for each skill in French;
  • Ability to show a minimum of 34% ownership if their business is located in an urban center or 51% if located in a regional area outside of Alberta’s two major cities, Calgary and Edmonton.

Other Ways Of Business Immigration Through AINP

Alberta Immigration Nominee Program (AINP) offers two other streams for eligible entrepreneurs to migrate and run a business in Alberta. It includes: 

 

  • Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream for applicants with farm management skills and enough financial resources to successfully run a farming business in Alberta;
  • International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, designed to retain recent international student graduates from Alberta post-secondaries.

 

In addition to these, AINP also operates the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Alberta Express Entry Stream for qualifying skilled workers and international graduates to work and settle in Canada. Most of these immigrants end up getting permanent residence and eventually, Canadian citizenship.
