Immigrate to Canada in 2022: Your Options to Become a Canadian Permanent Resident

How immigrate to canada in 2022

The year 2022 is finally here, and Canada immigration applications are considered for permanent residence at a record rate. Canada landed almost 400,000 new immigrants in 2021. However, the pandemic forced Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to favor more temporary residents to immigrate to Canada on permanent residency in 2021.

Canada immigration news

A successful “landing in Canada” means that a foreign national has now obtained Canada permanent residency visa. Getting a Canada permanent residency visa is not limited to individuals physically staying in Canada on temporary visas. It is equally applicable for eligible aspirants without work or study experience in Canada. IRCC offers more than 100 Canadian immigration programs to choose from.

Canada is currently pursuing its most ambitious Immigration Levels Plan in its history. It plans to welcome 411,000 in 2022, and an additional 421,000 in 2023. The new Mandate letter has already brightened the prospects of immigration to Canada in 2022 for most economic-class & family-class immigration aspirants.

The pandemic scare still lingers around. Canada is starting off the new year with record case counts of COVID-19. The federal government re-introduced the mandatory pre-arrival PCR test for incoming travellers. Most foreign travellers including international students and workers will have to be fully inoculated with recognized vaccines, starting this January 15.

As of now, international students, workers, and approved permanent residents are allowed to immigrate to Canada provided they follow the public health guidelines. Follow the Canadian government official information source on the latest travel restrictions as the coronavirus situation resurfaces.

Move Forward Your Canada Immigration Application with Express Entry Pathway

Since the launch of Express Entry in 2015, it has become Canada’s main pathway for economic-class immigrants. In fact, the Express Entry system is an application management system for three economic-class immigration programs:

  • Canadian Experience Class,
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program, and
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program.

If you are eligible for one of these programs, you may also be able to apply for a Provincial Nominee Program that is aligned with Express Entry. It increases your chances of qualifying for permanent residence as additional 600 qualifying points are added to your assessed profile score.

All the registered profiles in the Express Entry system are evaluated and assessed based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

You get more points for having a high language score, at least one year of skilled work experience, post-secondary education, and for being between the ages of 20 and 29. There are other factors that can boost your scores such as having French language proficiency, a sibling in Canada, or a valid Canadian job offer, among other things.

Get in touch with CanApprove to enter the Express Entry pool today.

Here, we would also like you to caution that not everyone who submits an Express Entry profile will be able to immigrate to Canada. IRCC only invites the highest-scoring candidates in the Express Entry pool to apply through bi-weekly draws.

For example, Canada only invited candidates who were eligible for the Canadian Experience Class or who had previously received a provincial nomination from a PNP in 2021 & 2020. The pandemic has also slowed down processing time at IRCC beyond the average nine months.

Immigrate to Canada Through Quebec Immigration Pathway

The Canadian province of Quebec and the federal government are in a special agreement for selecting candidates for immigration to Canada. Even though the French-speaking province of Quebec has its own immigration program, the federal government has the final say on who gets permanent residency.

You need a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), which is administered by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) to immigrate to Quebec. You can get the CSQ by applying for one of Quebec’s immigration programs such as

  • Quebec’s Regular Skilled Worker Program for French-speaking foreign workers in skilled occupations.
  • Quebec Experience Program is popular among French-speaking international student graduates from Quebec institutions as well as skilled workers.
  • Quebec Permanent Immigration Pilot Programs for food processing workers, orderlies, and tech workers in certain occupations.

Once you get your CSQ, you can move forward with your Canada immigration application to IRCC to obtain permanent residence.

Quebec has returned to the target of welcoming over 50,000 immigrants in 2022 after four years of cutting immigration by 20 per cent. About 65 per cent will arrive through economic-class immigration programs.

Usually, immigration candidates who fail to qualify for Express Entry, choose the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) route to immigrate to Canada. Other than Nunavut and Quebec, every province and territory has a PNP.

PNPs are a two-step immigration process to Canada. First, you apply to the province or territory. If you get a nomination you can use it to apply to the federal government.
