15,000 People Obtained Canada PR in September

Canada is known to welcome 35,000 immigrants to apply for Canada PR in September 2019. However, the coronavirus pandemic slowed down the new permanent resident intake with just 15000 were welcomed in September 2020.

Overall, Canada has welcomed about 143,500 immigrants between January and September this year. Canada welcomed 264,000 immigrants in the first nine months in 2019 and over 341,000 immigrants in total last year.

It meant that Canada is on pace to fall short of 200,000 immigrants by the end of the year.

The fall in immigration is fulfilled by the new Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023. Click to know more details.

Canada PNP Draws

British Columbia 358 provincial nominations under Express Entry & Skills Immigration categories
Manitoba 205 provincial nominations under Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas and International Education Stream.
Ontario 443 provincial nominations under nine targeted occupations

Ontario PNP draws is of significance because all the 443 nominations went to Express Entry candidates with targeted occupations:

  • Financial managers (NOC 0111);
  • Advertising, marketing and public relations managers (NOC 0124);
  • Corporate sales managers (NOC 0601);
  • Financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111);
  • Other financial officers (NOC 1114);
  • Professional occupations in business management consulting (NOC 122);
  • Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012);
  • Allied primary health practitioners (NOC 3124); or
  • Dieticians and nutritionists (NOC 3132).

In fact, any foreign skilled worker with adequate work experience is eligible to apply for a provincial nomination even without having worked in Canada before. Canada PNP draws last week included candidates registered in the Express Entry pool.

Why Obtaining Canada PR Easy?

According to its new Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will welcome over 400,000 eligible immigrants annually until 2023. Under the plan, economic-class programs such as Federal programs for Skilled Workers, Businesses, Caregivers and various other family immigration programs are given a boost.

Together, such immigration programs will contribute to about 80% of new immigrants in the upcoming years in Canada. Contact our immigration consultants to determine your eligibility.

Canada has wide acceptance for offering permanent residence to foreign skilled workers even without working in Canada prior to applying. Canada PR is especially open for foreign professionals having work experience as Computer Engineers, Software Developers, IT Experts, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil Engineers, Database Analysts, Graphics Designers, Audio & Video Recording Technicians, etc. A few dedicated Tech pilots like Ontario Tech Draw and British Columbia Tech Pilot, the federal Express Entry system is best suited for such aspirants to obtain permanent residence.

Canada made few changes in the evaluation criteria under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This was done to favour French-speaking or bilingual Express Entry candidates and increase immigration of such candidates to 4.4% outside the Quebec region.

Ultimately, Canada is majorly dependent on immigration to strengthen its economy. On the social front, Canada is giving equal impetus to family immigration to support its aging population and improve its problem of low birth rate.

Canada Adds Over 400,000 New Jobs in the Labour Market since August 2020

Between August, September and October, there were 462,200 jobs created in Canada’s labour market and 84,000 new jobs were created in the month of October alone. The slower employment growth is seen as a consequence of prolonged restrictions imposed as a response to the outbreak of COVID-19.

However, one other encouraging thing to note is that the unemployment rate fell 0.1% to 8.9% last month, according to the latest Labour Force survey by Statistics Canada.

Pnp finder

Breaking down the results of the survey, the Canadian provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island saw an employment increase in October.

British Columbia led the way with 34,000 new jobs. Ontario came second with 31,000 new jobs, mainly in wholesale and retail trade, and manufacturing. Alberta added 23,000 jobs with most of the employment gains occurring in Calgary. Employment in Newfoundland and Labrador increased by 5,900 in October, and in Prince Edward Island by 900.

All these point out to the fact that Canada is ready to meet the immigration demands. But before that beware of Immigration frauds! Stay safe by choosing a trusted immigration partner and a registered consultant at Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) like CanApprove

Steps undertaken by Canada to welcome more new immigrants

Canada could have not chosen a better time than the present to announce its new Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023. According to the plan, Canada will welcome over 400,000 eligible immigrants annually until 2023. Under the plan, economic-class programs such as Federal programs for Skilled Workers, Businesses, Caregivers and various other family immigration programs are given a boost. Together, over 80% of new immigrants would be welcomed under such programs.

Canada has wide acceptance for offering permanent residence to foreign skilled workers even without working in Canada prior to applying. Canada’s Tech sector attracts a lot of foreign professionals having work experience as Computer Engineers, Software Developers, IT Experts, Electronics, Mechanical, Civil Engineers, Database Analysts, Graphics Designers, Audio & Video Recording Technicians, etc.

Apart from a few dedicated Tech pilots like Ontario Tech Draw and British Columbia Tech Pilot, the federal Express Entry system is best suited for such aspirants to obtain permanent residence. Canada CRS point

Last week, Canada decided to focus more on French-speaking or bilingual Express Entry candidates by increasing immigration to 4.4% outside the Quebec region. This is made possible through changes in Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score evaluation. Click here for complete details.

Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration Streams

For any candidate to receive a provincial nomination from British Columbia, registration under the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) is mandatory.

Under the SIRS, the applicants’ profiles are evaluated and issued a score based on the level of education, work experience, proficiency in English, and location of employment. The maximum scoring is done out of 200 points.

November 10 issued nominations under the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled subcategories

Below given is the minimum score required for receiving an invitation for a provincial nomination.

Minimum Required Score – October 27 BC PNP draws
Skills Immigration: Skilled Worker 93 points
Skills Immigration: International Graduate 94 points
Skills Immigration Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled 75 points
Express Entry BC: Skilled Worker 92 points
Express Entry BC: International Graduate 93 points

Express Entry British Columbia is aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system. It allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool, thereby significantly reducing application processing times.

The Skills Immigration Program is composed of a number of categories including Skilled Worker, Healthcare Professions, International Graduate, each with their own unique eligibility requirements.

On receiving a successful provincial nomination, one can apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Applying under the Express Entry-linked PNP stream is the fastest way to get permanent residence in Canada.

B.C. Tech Pilot

BC PNP started a weekly Tech Pilot draw in 2017 to attract foreign talent in the growing BC’s tech sector. The pilot is now available to nominate skilled workers for 29 occupations as mentioned below. The Tech pilot is open until June 2021 and may extend beyond.

Candidates need to have a valid job offer in one of 29 eligible occupations to qualify for B.C. Tech Pilot. Click here to know all the 29 eligible occupations and their NOC code

How is Canada PNP equally a good choice?

Firstly, Canada has unveiled its historic Immigration Levels Plans which promises over 400,000 new immigrants annually for the next three years. Just like any other plan, upto 60% of new migrants will come under economic-class programs – Federal programs for Skilled Workers, Business, Caregivers, and Provincial Nominee Programs.

Secondly, the Annual Report on Immigration submitted to Canadian Parliament mentioned the success of Canada PNP in welcoming more immigrants in 2019.

Overall, last year was good for Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia as it attracted a good number of immigrants to apply for provincial nominations through PNP. As per the conventions, a provincial nomination is a guaranteed ticket to obtain permanent residence in Canada.

Manitoba Issued 4,273 Invitations to PNP Candidates so far in 2020

Manitoba released the results of its 101st PNP draw held on November 5

The draw resulted in 205 invitations to eligible candidates including the candidates from the federal Express Entry pool to apply for provincial nominations. These invitations are called Letter of Advice to Apply (LAAs). With these LAAs, the candidates can apply with the Immigrations, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to obtain permanent residency.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited skilled workers and international graduate through three immigration streams:

Any overseas candidate can apply under the MPNP provided they have an established connection to Manitoba. This can be demonstrated through close family ties or friends in the province, previous experience in Manitoba, or an invitation under one of the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.

In order to be eligible for the Skilled Workers in Manitoba, category candidates must have a full-time permanent job offer from an employer in Manitoba. One biggest advantage for International students to graduate from universities/colleges in Manitoba is that they may also be eligible to apply for provincial nomination under the MPNP.

After fulfilling the program eligibility, aspiring candidates are required to an Expression of Interest with the MPNP to receive an LAA through the Skilled Workers in Manitoba and Skilled Workers Overseas streams.

Such registered candidates are ranked out of 1,000 points for human capital characteristics such as their English or French language skills, education, work experience, Manitoba connections, and other factors. The highest-ranking candidates get LAAs.

November 5 issued LAAs to all 205 candidates as per follows:

MPNP Category Qualifying EOI score LAAs issues
Skilled Workers in Manitoba 461 166
Skilled Workers Overseas 708 16
International Education Stream N/A 23

Last week, Canada submitted the Annual Report on Immigration to its Parliament along with the Immigration Levels Plans for 2021-23. The report noted that few Canadian PNP from the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia enjoyed comparable levels of PNP admissions in 2019.

Improving Credential Recognition for Internationally-Trained Applicants

In order for newcomers to keep their skills up to date so they can rejoin their professions more quickly after arriving in Manitoba, the provincial government is taking adequate steps to reduce barriers to the successful and timely registration of internationally trained applicants to regulated professions.

“Regulated professions are responsible for protecting the public interest by ensuring a high standard of professional practice, and our government is working with Manitoba’s 30 regulated professions as the updated act would require them to take steps to improve their assessment and registration process”, said the provincial immigration minister, Eichler, in a media release

Some of the 30 self-regulated professions in Manitoba include:

  • Colleges of Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Physicians, and Surgeons,
  • the Manitoba Dental Association,
  • Chartered Professional Accountants Manitoba,
  • Manitoba College of Social Workers and
  • Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association.

Secondly, Canada is looking to favor more francophone, or french-speaking candidates to migrate to Canada outside the Quebec region by 2023. Any registered profile in the federal Express Entry pool is mandatorily assessed on CRS criteria: age, work experience, education, language proficiency in English, or French.

The Annual Report to the Canadian Parliament on Immigration: Good News For Aspiring Immigrants!

Alongside the revised Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023 unveiled last week, Canada’s government also released its Annual Report on Immigration.

The report which was submitted to its Parliament provides an overview of the latest immigration developments in Canada. It is exciting to know that our claims on showing that everything is right with Canadian immigration are resounding in the report.

canada Pnp finder

Let’s discuss four such highlights from the report:

#1 Nearly 200,000 immigrants arrived under the economic class in 2019

Canada welcomed almost 200,000 immigrants under the economic class programs for Skilled Workers, Caregivers, Business, Atlantic Immigration Pilot, and Provincial Nominee Programs. Nearly 90,000 arrived through Express Entry in Canada. The same is expected to reach 100,000 candidates through Express Entry in 2020.

Most Express Entry candidates in 2019 landed in major provinces such as:

  • Ontario (71%),
  • British Columbia (17%), and
  • Alberta (8%)

“Nearly 60% of new permanent residents in Canada come under economic class programs. This will remain the case under the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan.”

#2 Canada welcomed over 1 million newcomers in 2019

Most newcomers in Canada arrive on a temporary basis and have a good chance to obtain permanent residency, thanks to its liberal immigration policies.

“Over 1 million immigrants and study and work permit holders were welcomed to Canada in 2019 in which over 341,000 newcomers arrived as permanent residents and over 400,000 obtained study permits. “

The latest Immigration plan for the next three years is historic as it hopes to welcome over 1.2 million new immigrants in Canada.

#3 Canada is welcoming more Francophone immigrants

Following a change in evaluation criteria of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), Canada can target more francophone or french-speaking immigrants outside the Quebec region.

Any registered profile in the federal Express Entry pool is evaluated based on CRS criteria, majorly – age, education, language proficiency in English or French, and work experience.

Recently, IRCC made changes that will award more points to French-speaking Express Entry candidates

Based on the recent update, Canada aims to achieve its Francophone immigration target of 4.4% of newcomers settling outside of Quebec by 2023.

#4 Family Immigration is also a priority

Canada is faced with dual demographic shock: an aging population and low birth rate. At the same time, the country is also looking for immigration to strengthen its economy. Thus, Family Immigration is as important as Economic-Class Immigration to Canada.

The annual report showed the progress that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) was making to tackle family reunification backlogs prior to the pandemic.

“Nearly 90,000 immigrants that arrived in Canada under the family class in 2019 came under the spouses, partners, and children category.”

IRCC has a standard of processing family class applications within 12 months of being received.

Here is another post from us reflecting on Family Immigration in Canada in 2020.

Leave aside the annual report, several global surveys, immigration opinion polls have to point out the fact that new immigrants are more than welcomed in Canada than any other developed western country.

ArriveCAN App now Mandatory for Travellers to Canada from Nov 21

Canada has eased-out its restrictions and will soon allow travelers to enter Canada. However, just like many other countries, those traveling to Canada are required to use the ArriveCAN app to furnish additional travel details. This legal requirement is mandatory from November 21 onwards.

What is ArriveCAN?

ArriveCAN is a free mobile-based and web-based application introduced by the Canadian government to help travelers comply with the border measures. It can either be downloaded as a mobile app or one can sign in to the app online via any web browser.

canada Pnp finder

#1 Before Arriving in Canada: All important information, including travel and contact information, quarantine plan (not required if exempted), and a COVID-19 symptom self-assessment, needs to be furnished through the ArriveCAN app.

Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers will digitally verify the submitted information. There are penal provisions upto a fine of $1,000 for the ones who fail to submit the required information.

Air Carriers will play a crucial role in sending reminders to submit the required information digitally through ArriveCAN before boarding the flight.

#2 After Arriving in Canada: A 14-day quarantine period is mandated for all travelers to Canada barring few exceptions. Daily updates on their activities will be monitored through the ArriveCAN app.

The Canadian government had already cleared their stance on user privacy. ArriveCAN app does not contain any GPS to track the traveler’s movements.

Those who have not used the ArriveCAN app before boarding the flight to Canada need to submit their daily information by dialing the toll-free number: 1-833-641-0343

Express Entry: Minimum CRS hiked as 4,500 ITAs issued for Canada PR

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held its 166th Express Entry draws on November 5, only a week after announcing the historic Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023

Express Entry draws are held every two weeks. However, November 5 draw was delayed following an update in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) evaluation: French-speaking candidates are now eligible for additional CRS points over their English-only speaking counterparts.

canada Pnp finder

Quick Highlights on 166th Express Entry Draw

#1 Largest Draw Size: IRCC maintains the same draw size as the previous Express Entry draw at 4,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence. This is the third instance in 2020 where IRCC issued 4,500 ITAs in a single draw.

CanApprove anticipates increased draw size in near future Express Entry draws based on the following factors:

  • Those who receive invitations now will be able to enter Canada only in 2021. It takes upto six months or beyond to process the application
  • The reduced refugees intake temporarily is replaced with more number of immigrants intakes under the economic class immigration
  • With Provincial Nominee Programs falling short of its demand, Express Entry nominations may remain high.

#2 Qualifying CRS increases: Express Entry is merely an application management system for federal immigration programs and specific provincial nominee programs. Thus all the registered profiles in the Express Entry pool are evaluated using a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This ranking system factors in the core human capital like age, work experience, education, and skills in English or French. The profiles are scored upon a maximum of 1200 points.

November 5 draw saw a sharp increase in qualifying CRS to 478. The previous draw required CRS scored equal to or above 471 for selection.

Express Entry draw Chart

#3 Tie-break rule: Often there arises a situation where candidates end up having the same CRS score. Here is where IRCC uses its tie-break rule to rank a particular candidate higher. The timestamp used in the latest draw was October 26, 2020 at 22:44:19 UTC.

This meant that all candidates with a CRS score above 478 before the selected date and time were eligible to receive an ITA in this invitation round.

  • Single: Her initial human capital score is 422, not enough to qualify. However, since she holds a provincial certification in her occupation from Nova Scotia, she gains 600 additional points. This makes her eligible to qualify for November 5 draw.

Express Entry Draws in 2020

Canada is already cruising ahead with 87,350 ITAs for permanent residence so far in 2020. It is further expected to cross the 100,000 ITA landmark, exceeding the 2020 annual allocation target of 91,800 ITAs.

Despite the negative consequence of pandemic on immigration levels, Express Entry has created record-breaking nominations for permanent residence, thereby welcoming eligible foreign skilled workers with/without job offers or Canadian work experience.

The regular conduct of Express Entry draws and Provincial Nominee draws during the ongoing travel restrictions in Canada shows a high level of commitment towards welcoming immigrants. Having offered our immigration consultancy services for over two decades now, CanApprove senses a big pull for skilled immigrants- professionals, entrepreneurs/investors, students, in the coming years to migrate to Canada.

Good Time to Migrate to Canada is Now!

With the unveiling of the much-awaited Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023, now is definitely the right time to migrate to Canada. Over the next three years, Canada is planning to welcome more than 1.2k new immigrants to support their economy as well as aging demography.

CRS Calculator

About 50% of such immigrants each year are expected to come from economic-class programs like Federal Skilled Workers Programs, Canada Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Programs, etc. The likely beneficiaries are foreign skilled workers with/without work experience in Canada, international students aspiring to study and settle in Canada, and foreign entrepreneurs looking to establish their business in Canada.

Recent changes to the evaluation criteria of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) used for Express Entry profiles are aimed at increasing the francophone or French-speaking population outside the Quebec region by 2023.

All these also strengthen the fact that Canada is the most preferred migrant destination, ahead of Australia and the USA. Wait for no further and contact CanApprove to know your best immigration programs.

Saskatchewan Issues 534 Invitations for Provincial Nominations

Saskatchewan held a new round of invitations on November 3.

It was only last week when Saskatchewan released the results of two PNP draws held October 21 and October 26. Both led to inviting over 1000 eligible foreign skilled workers with/without work experience in Canada to apply for a provincial nomination.

November 3 draws invited 534 eligible candidates to apply for provincial nomination. Candidates with a successful provincial nomination can apply with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to be considered for permanent residence.

All the invited candidates belonged to the International Skilled Worker category. Under the category, the province can nominate any individual who is already registered with IRCC’s Express Entry pool as well other individuals whose work skills match that of in-demand occupation in Saskatchewan.

The candidates in the Express Entry pool are already eligible for one of the three federal economic immigration programs – Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades(FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

In order to be considered for an invitation, eligible candidates need to submit a separate Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the province. These EOI profiles are evaluated based on their commitment to building a life in Saskatchewan by showcasing their:

  • work experience,
  • education,
  • language ability,
  • age, and
  • connections to the province.

The maximum score is given out of 100 points.

November 3 draws required both categories of candidates to have a minimum cut-off score of 68, but from there the requirements differed.
