First Alberta Express Entry draw 2020 held on January 9 issues 150 invites

The first Alberta Express Entry draw 2020, which was held on January 9, saw 150 candidates receiving Notifications of Interest (NoIs) or invitations to apply for provincial nomination. The candidates who have received invitations through the Alberta Express Entry stream were required to score at least 350 Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) points to be invited.

Alberta Express Entry stream

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and nominate them for Permanent Residence in Canada. The Canada Express Entry system manages applications to the three federal economic immigration programs– the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who receive invitation in an Alberta Express Entry draw and successfully obtain provincial nomination from Alberta, will get 600 additional CRS points that would guarantee them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Alberta issues 150 invites

The minimum CRS score required for candidates to receive invitation in the January 9 draw was 350. This score requirement is too low when compared to the minimum CRS score requirement for the latest federal Express Entry draw held on January 22, which was 471. So Alberta Express Entry stream gives an opportunity to apply for Canada PR to even those immigration candidates who have a low CRS score.

Alberta Express Entry Stream Eligibility

To be eligible for provincial nomination from Alberta through the Express Entry stream, the candidates need to meet certain criteria. Though a job offer or previous work experience in the province is not mandatory, the stream gives priority to those who meet the following criteria:

• A job offer from an Alberta employer
• Work experience in Alberta
• A Canadian degree and a valid job offer
• A close relative residing in Alberta

Canada Provincial Nominee Programs is a favourable pathway for even those with a low CRS score. Check your eligibility for Canada migration through PNP by filling our free online assessment form.

The draw selected candidates from Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact categories of Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). Prince Edward Island Express Entry

The Prince Edward Island Express Entry category, linked to the federal Express Entry system, allows the province to select eligible candidates from the Express Entry pool and nominate them for Canada PR. The Express Entry candidates who wish to receive provincial nomination from Prince Edward Island must submit a separate Expression of Interest to the PEI PNP. Those who receive provincial nomination will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points added to their total CRS score. That would guarantee them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Prince Edward Island Expression of Interest

Those who wish to be considered for provincial nomination through the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories of PEI PNP must first submit an Expression of Interest. Each Expression of Interest profile submitted this way is assessed and awarded a score on the basis of the point assessment grid of the PEI PNP. The highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for a provincial nomination in the draws that are held on a monthly basis.

In the case of the latest draw, PEI PNP is yet to reveal the exact number of Express Entry candidates who received invitations and the minimum score required to be selected.

In the latest federal Express Entry draw held on January 22, which is the second Express Entry draw of 2020, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3400 Invitations to Apply(ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score was dropped by two points to 471 compared to the previous Express Entry draw held on January 8, 2020.  With the latest draw, the total number of ITAs issued by IRCC through the Express Entry draws in January alone is 6800.

Canada is expected to continue inviting a high number of candidates through Express Entry throughout this year having set a higher admission target for the current year and the coming year.  While the Express Entry immigration target for 2020 is set at 85800, the target for 2021 is 88800.

As in the previous draws, tie-break rule was applied in the January 22 draw too, the time-stamp given being May 9, 2019 at 01:16:02 UTC. It means the draw did not invite all candidates with a minimum CRS score of 471. Only those who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.

Canada Express Entry

The federal Express Entry system was introduced by the Canada government in January 2015 for managing the applications through the three federal economic immigration programs– the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Those who wish to receive Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) must create an Express Entry profile. Each of these profiles is awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score out of 1200 based on various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency etc. The highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly. Though a job offer from Canada is not mandatory to qualify for Express Entry immigration, those who have one earns some additional CRS points.

Every Provincial Nominee Program in Canada has at least one stream/category linked to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System score points added to their total CRS score, which guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Changes proposed for Australia Skilled Occupation Lists

The changes proposed for the Australia Skilled Occupation Lists have been revealed in the Traffic Light Bulletin released by the Australian Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business. These include removal/down-grading of certain trades occupations and adding some occupations related to personal care and elderly care to the lists. The proposed changes, if accepted, will come into effect in March 2020.

The Bulletin classifies those occupations which are likely to be removed from all Australia Skilled Occupations Lists as red occupations. These occupations once used to be popular among migrants and were in demand in Australia. Some red occupations are hairdresser, massage therapist and community worker.

Australia Skilled Occupation Lists are of three types: Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL). The occupations that are likely to be moved among these lists as part of the changes have been classified as orange. The orange occupations that are likely to be downgraded from MLTSSL to STSOL include Automotive Electricians and Motorcycle Mechanics, Painting Trades Workers, and Wall and Floor Tilers. Similarly, some other occupations that will probably be moved from ROL to STSOL include Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson and Real Estate Representative.

australia immigration

Occupations including Sales and Marketing Manager, ICT Project Manager, and Information and Organization Professionals are likely to be moved from STSOL to MLTSSL. This proposed change would enable 482 visa applicants to apply for permanent residency and give them a chance to apply for a Skilled Independent 189 visa.

Further, as per the proposed changes, the occupation of Geologist is likely to be moved from the STSOL to ROL. Similarly, occupations including Procurement Manager and Ship’s Master are likely to be moved from ROL to MLTSSL. This will enable the employers to sponsor employees outside of regional Australia.

Green occupations are those which are proposed to be added to the STSOL and these include Aged or Disabled Carer, Nursing Support Worker, Personal Care Assistant etc.

Further, the Department has recommended implementing a minimum salary caveat of AU $65000 per annum for bakers, pastry cooks, and fitter and turners.

The Department has also identified some new occupations which do not currently fit into the ANZSCO system and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has decided to bring these occupations under the following definitions:

Occupation not in ANZSCO ABS Determined Occupation Code
Block chain Strategist 261111 ICT Business Analyst
Block chain Planner/Manager 135112 ICT Project Manager

Irrigation Manager 121213 Fruit or Nut Grower

Australia occupation ceiling for 2019-2020 program year revealed

Australia occupation ceiling 2019-2020 has revealed the maximum number of skilled immigrants who will be admitted under each of the occupations in the country’s Skilled Occupation List. Australia Occupation Ceiling sets a limit to the number of skilled immigrants who can move Australia in a certain career field.

Australia welcomes thousands of skilled migrants from different parts of the world every year. Australia occupation ceiling allows the country to limit the number of skilled workers who can be admitted each program year under a specific career field. By setting occupation ceilings, Australia makes sure that its skilled migration program is not dominated by a small number of occupations.

Invitations issued under the independent and skilled regional visas have to comply with occupation ceilings. Once the ceiling is hit, no more invitations are issued under that particular occupation group in that year. If that happens, immigration candidates of other occupation groups will be invited, even if their ranking is low.

The Australia Occupation Ceiling is not applicable to visa subclasses such as:

  • State or Territory Nominated
  • Employer-sponsored

OINP Tech Draw

Most of the major tech hubs of Canada such as Toronto, Ottawa and Waterloo are located in Ontario. By introducing Tech Draw, OINP aimed to meet the growing demand for skilled tech workers. Since its launch in 2019, three Ontario Tech Draws have been conducted so far. As the draw is being conducted through the Express Entry-aligned Human Capital Priorities Stream of the OINP, it is necessary for the candidate to have an active Express Entry profile to be eligible for selection. The candidates selected for provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total CRS score.

Immigration aspirant’s hopeful as Canada’s job sector continues to be upbeat

The employment rate in Canada continues to remain high and the job sector of the country is upbeat as ever, shows the latest Labour Force Survey by Statistics Canada. According to the survey report, the highest employment gains were recorded in December 2019 by Ontario and Quebec, two of the richest provinces in Canada. The private sector of the country had around 57000 new employees in the month. The sectors that had the highest employment gains are accommodation, food services, and construction. The number of new employees in the accommodation and food services sectors increased by 25000 in the month in Quebec alone. In construction sectors, 17000 new jobs were added by British Columbia and Ontario. All these helped in boosting the overall employment rate in Canada.

Employment rate in Canada

The employment rate in Canada has grown at a faster pace in the year 2019, compared to the previous year. A total of 320,000 persons got placements in Canada during the one year between December 2018 and 2019.  In 2019, the unemployment rate in Canada also hit a record low at 5.4 percent.

In the case of provinces, 25000 persons got placed in Ontario alone, during December 2019. In Quebec, 21,000 new placements were recorded in this period. In both the provinces, the unemployment rate was the lowest at 5.3 percent. Provinces such as Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick also had comparatively higher employment gains.

Why Canada need workers?

Being a country with low population growth, Canada needs more foreign workers to sustain its economic development. A foreign skilled worker may apply for a work visa or permanent residence visa from Canada. The Federal Skilled Worker(FSWP) program is a popular Canada immigration program for skilled workers that selects eligible foreign workers to migrate to Canada on the basis of their skills, work experience and other eligibility factors. Every year, around 70000 skilled worker visas are approved by Canada under this program.

Is a job offer necessary to move to Canada?

You can move to Canada without a job offer through certain immigration programs. It is not at all necessary for an eligible foreign worker to have a job offer in order to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Why is moving to Canada a good idea?

Moving to Canada is the best decision you can take for you and your family’s future. The country offers high living standards, world-class educational opportunities, and a successful career. Besides, permanent residents and citizens also enjoy many social benefits including pension and free healthcare. The US News and World Report say that Canada is the second-best immigration destination in the whole world.

308 invitations issued in January 9 Saskatchewan Expression of Interest draw!

In its first Saskatchewan Expression of Interest draw of the year 2020, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) invited 308 candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The candidates invited in the January 9 draw belonged to either the Express Entry or the Occupations In-Demand sub-category of SINP. While 142 invitations went to candidates belonging to the Express Entry sub-category, the remaining 166 invitations were issued to Occupations In-Demand candidates. The candidates of both the sub-categories had to score at least 69 on the Points Assessment Grid of Saskatchewan to be invited.

Candidates in 82 occupations received invitations in the January 9 draw. These occupations included managers in agriculture, electronic service technicians and administrative officers. Though a job offer is not necessary to be invited in the Saskatchewan Expression of Interest draw, the candidates must have submitted an Expression of Interest to the SINP.  Further, they must also have at least one year of work experience in an eligible skilled occupation, related to their field of study.

Saskatchewan Expression of Interest

To be considered for provincial nomination through either the Express Entry sub-category or the Occupations In-Demand sub-category, an immigration candidate must first submit an Expression of Interest to the SINP. Each EoI profile submitted in this manner is assessed on the basis of a number of eligibility factors such as work experience, education, language proficiency, age etc. and awarded a score out of 100. The highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination.

Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category

The Express Entry sub-category of SINP, aligned to the federal Express Entry pool, allows the province to select eligible candidates to nominate for Canada PR from the federal Express Entry pool. Those who are nominated by the province are awarded an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points. In the subsequent federal Express Entry draw, they receive an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence in Canada.

Occupations In-demand sub-category

Those without an Express Entry profile may receive provincial nomination from Saskatchewan through Occupations In-Demand sub category. Saskatchewan uses an Excluded Occupations List in order to select candidates instead of an In-demand Occupations List. It helps SINP immigration authorities to have more flexibility in responding to the changing labor market demands of the province.
