Between August, September and October, there were 462,200 jobs created in Canada’s labour market and 84,000 new jobs were created in the month of October alone. The slower employment growth is seen as a consequence of prolonged restrictions imposed as a response to the outbreak of COVID-19.
However, one other encouraging thing to note is that the unemployment rate fell 0.1% to 8.9% last month, according to the latest Labour Force survey by Statistics Canada.
Breaking down the results of the survey, the Canadian provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island saw an employment increase in October.
British Columbia led the way with 34,000 new jobs. Ontario came second with 31,000 new jobs, mainly in wholesale and retail trade, and manufacturing. Alberta added 23,000 jobs with most of the employment gains occurring in Calgary. Employment in Newfoundland and Labrador increased by 5,900 in October, and in Prince Edward Island by 900.

Steps undertaken by Canada to welcome more new immigrants
Canada could have not chosen a better time than the present to announce its new Immigration Levels Plan for 2021-2023. According to the plan, Canada will welcome over 400,000 eligible immigrants annually until 2023.
