Ontario Nomination Draws Targets 592 Registered Profiles To Apply For Provincial Nominations

The Canadian province of Ontario released the details of its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws held in May 2022. The Ontario nomination draws invited a total of 592 candidates under two separate skilled-trades streams held on a different date.

PNP News

Occupations can be identified as skilled trades based on National Occupational Classification (NOC). The following are considered skilled trades in Ontario

  • All occupations within NOC minor group 633 (the first three digits of the NOC Code)
  • All occupations within NOC major groups 72, 73, or 82 (the first two digits of the NOC Code)

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) had paused releasing information on the  Ontario nomination draws results during the provincial government election, which ended on June 2.

About the In-Demand Skills Stream

Ontario issued 57 invitations to apply to potential candidates under the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream. All the invited candidates had already registered themselves in the Expression of Interest (EOI) system pool.

For this nomination draw, the qualifying profiles had a score of 27 and above.

The In-Demand Skills Stream focuses more on Foreign workers with eligible job offers in Ontario. They are required to have nine months of cumulative work experience in the province within the past three years.

Generally, candidates need a high school education, a language score of at least 4 in all proficiencies, and sufficient settlement funds, among other requirements.

About Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream

Again on May 26, the Ontario nomination draws invited 535 candidates from the federal Express Entry pool.

The notifications of interest to potential candidates were issued under Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades stream. All the invited candidates had a qualifying Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 295 and 461.

Candidates do not need a job offer to apply under the Skilled Trades Stream, but they must meet all the mandatory federal and provincial program requirements.

How to Get Canada PR through PNP?

Canada PR through PNP is a two-step process where eligible candidates receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency after successful provincial nomination. The inclusion of an additional 600 CRS points to provincial nominee holders in the Express Entry pool effectively guarantees permanent residency.

Getting an invitation to apply for permanent residency remains under the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government. A provincial nomination can only fast-track the total time taken to receive an invitation to apply.

Through provincial nominations for international students, interested candidates can qualify for Canadian permanent residency in a quick time. Applying through provincial nominee programs may give you the best deal.

Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) issues provincial nominations to eligible skilled workers under its famous Human Capital Priorities stream. The province also invites candidates already registered in the federal pool under its Tech draw.

Those with provincial nominations like the one from Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream or Ontario Tech Draw or any other stream will get preferential treatment to obtain permanent residence.

Over 500,000 Newcomers in Canada May Be Invited In Q3 2022

Newcomers in Canada are usually referred to as people who have recently left another country to settle in. Canada is projected to welcome about 520,000 newcomers between July and September of 2022. This would be a considerable figure in just a three-month period and would represent a significant turnaround following two difficult years in Canadian immigration since the pandemic.

study-abroad

International students: Up to 270,000 could arrive this summer

In the first quarter of 2022, Canada welcomed nearly 90,000 international students. Assuming Canada’s 30 per cent increase during Q1 2022 continues into subsequent quarters, we could see as many as 270,000 international students arrive in Canada between July and September of this year.

Permanent residents: Some 130,000 people could land in Q3 2022

Guided by its Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024, the Canadian government is currently pursuing the goal of landing nearly 432,000 new permanent residents this year. Canada is achieving its goal by prioritizing the landings of applicants living in the country.

However, recent Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data is now processing more overseas applications. For instance, it has prioritised Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) applications this year, predominantly submitted by candidates living abroad.

Temporary foreign workers: Over 100,000 work permits likely to be issued in Q3

Canada has two categories of temporary foreign workers. Those welcomed to address labour shortages are done under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The majority are welcomed under the International Mobility Program (IMP), which sees work permits issued for economic, social, and cultural purposes.

When combining TFWP and IMP projections, we could see between 110,000 and 120,000 new work permits issued between July and September.

What does it mean for Canadian Immigration?

However, projecting such high figures for newcomers in Canada is difficult. There can be double-counting and even triple-counting since it is routine for newcomers to switch their visa status.

For instance, an international student can begin with a study permit, switch to a Post Graduation Work Permit, and obtain permanent residence. IRCC may count thrice if all of these occur in the same year.

Despite these variables, there is a high likelihood that IRCC is open to inviting more unique newcomers to Canada due to reasons such as pandemic travel restrictions being largely lifted and record-high levels of applications to get through its pandemic-induced backlogs.

Australia PR Open To Overseas Skilled Workers & Graduates In Over 330 Occupations

Commencing in the 2022-23 program year, people residing overseas are now eligible to be considered for Western Australia (WA) State nomination. Receiving state nominations from WA can fetch additional points under the Immigration Points System to receive Australia PR.

Australia-immigration

The invitations to apply for WA state nomination will be decided via the ranking system. The regional government will give preference to applicants who are:

  • International graduates from any institution in Western Australia, OR
  • with work experience in over 330 occupations, AND
  • currently residing in WA, followed by those residing in Australia, and then those residing overseas.

Sue Ellery, Minister for education and training, explained that the move could reduce skill shortages and help the region’s economic growth. She said that the state had been made a safe place to live, study, and work in Australia by providing world-class education, health management, and job opportunities.

194 occupations are added to the Graduate Occupation List to attract students to study in Western Australia.

Students who graduate in Western Australia may qualify directly to apply for Australian permanent residence.

How to Apply for an Australia PR?

Australia PR is applied through the Skillselect system. A Skillselect system is points-based to express interest by interested foreign skilled workers or business people for immigration to Australia.

Various criteria on which interested candidates are awarded scores under the Australia PR points system are age, language proficiency, work experience, educational qualification, regional study, community language skill, spouse skill & qualification, nominations & sponsorships, etc.

Age

The points allocation under the Australia PR points system clearly reveals that the country is looking for well-qualified but young skilled immigrants to contribute positively to their economy. Note the maximum Australia PR points you can gain under the Age criteria.

Age Points
18-24 years 25
25-32 years 30
33-39 years 25
40-44 years 15

The maximum points are allotted under the Australia PR points system for English proficiency through the IELTS exam with a score band 8 or above. It indicates the country’s preference for well-qualified English-speaking workers to immigrate to Australia.

IELTS score Points
Superior (IELTS score 8 or more) 20
Proficient (IELTS score 7 or more) 10
Competent (IELTS score 6 or more) 0

5 years 15
8 years 20

OUTSIDE Australia in the last 10 years

Doctorate 20
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree 15

Finding a Job in Canada Made Easy: Over 1 Million Job Vacancies in Canada Reported

Statistics Canada recently released its report on job vacancies, payroll, and earnings for the month of March 2022. The findings made in the report is encouraging as it posts over 1 million job vacancies in Canada.

study-abroad

Canadian employers in accommodation and food services were seeking to fill about 158,100 positions, and retail employers had some 109,200 vacancies. There were record levels of job vacancies in Canada even in health care and social assistance as well as construction. Health care and social assistance employers sought 154,500 vacancies, and construction employers were seeking to fill nearly 81,900 employees.

In total, finding a job in Canada is getting lucrative as employers were actively seeking to fill about 1,012,900 vacant positions at the beginning of March 2022.

Job vacancies in Canada went up in all provinces, with the largest month-over-month rise observed in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador. In terms of the number of job vacancies, British Columbia, and Manitoba achieved new records.

Meanwhile, Quebec is also facing a severe skill shortage and is emphasizing more on the immigration of foreign talents.

Unemployment Rate Fell Across the Three Immigrant Cohorts

Earlier last month, Statistics Canada made a few other observations with respect to the unemployment rate among Canadian immigrants. The results are likely to boost immigration to Canada in the near future:

  • PR immigrants within the last five years: The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 per cent among immigrants, compared to 8.3 per cent in April.
  • Immigrants who gained PR between 5 to 10 years ago: fell to 5.8 per cent compared to 6.3 per cent in March.
  • Immigrants who gained permanent residence 10 years ago or more: It stood at 4.6 per cent in April compared to 4.8 per cent in March.

Best Period to Plan Your Immigration to Canada

Amid pandemic disruption to international mobility, immigration to Canada kept unemployment rates low by increasingly converting the status of temporary residents located in Canada to permanent residents.

With increased economic activity in Canada on the rise, eligible skilled workers will now be targeted to fulfil the increased job vacancies in Canada and qualify for permanent residency.

About 1 million new immigrants will be nominated for Canada PR under various economic-class programs including the Express Entry system and Provincial Nominee Programs over the next three years.

Thousands of foreign skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and international students will benefit from these immigration-friendly measures.

Weekly British Columbia PNP Draw Issues 137 Invitations to Apply for Canadian Immigration

British Columbia PNP draw held the latest round of nominations on May 24 resulting in over 137 new invitations to apply for Canadian immigration. The westernmost province invited a majority of profiles through the Tech stream and the remaining through two occupation-specific draws supporting the health and education sector.

All invited profiles either had prior skilled work experience or international graduates with study experience in Canada and were already registered in one of the BC immigration streams to receive the provincial nominations.

British Columbia PNP Tech stream

The first British Columbia PNP tech draw issued a total of 115 invitations to apply for provincial nominations that could lead to Canadian permanent residency. All the invited profiles had a qualifying score of 85 points.

The British Columbia PNP tech draw is a fast-track, employer-driven immigration stream for the immigration of talented candidates with work experience in one of the in-demand tech occupations.

Some in-demand tech occupations in the British Columbia include

  • Web designers & developers
  • Graphic designers, and illustrators
  • Software engineers and designers
  • Civil Engineers
  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Chemical Engineers
  • Software Engineers
  • Tech Managers

All the invited profiles through BC’s Tech draws must meet the requirements of one of British Columbia’s Express Entry BC and Skills immigration categories.

It would mean that the candidates under the Skills Immigration categories must have a job offer or a current job to qualify, except for international graduates. Whereas profiles invited through the Express Entry British Columbia Stream need not have a job offer in the province.

British Columbia PNP draws: occupation-specific draws

The second occupation-specific British Columbia PNP draw targeted two specific occupations:

  • 11 early childhood educators (NOC 4214) with scores of at least 60;
  • 11 healthcare professionals including managers, nurses, practitioners to therapists with scores of at least 60;

All the invited profiles qualified for any of the sub-categories – Skilled Worker and International Graduate.

It would mean that candidates required work experience and a job offer in the province to qualify. Additionally, if you had studied at any institution in British Columbia, you could be invited through the Graduate category without a job offer.

Apply for Canadian Immigration via Provincial Nominee Program

Canadian immigration means a pathway to obtaining permanent residency.

The provincial nominee program’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) manages applications under the two skilled immigration programs. Registration and profile assessment based on education, work experience, and language skills form the core selection criteria.

Eligible candidates may qualify for a temporary resident visa and gain work experience in Canada. Based on their Canadian work experience, they may apply for permanent residence either through the provincial nominee program or Canada Experience Class (CEC).

Recent statistics show that the share of those admitted within the provincial nominee program is at 46% and the share of those landing via CEC increased from 8% to 19%, in 2015.

The British Columbia PNP draws nominations are valid for approximately six months from the date of confirmation.

During this time period, you can apply with IRCC under the Provincial Nominee Class and receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence through fortnightly Express Entry nomination draws. You may receive an additional 600 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of the Express Entry system.

In fact, the recent Express Entry draws targeted 589 candidates with prior provincial nominations. All the invites had a minimum CRS score of 741. It meant that they required only 141 points to score on CRS to qualify! The remaining 600 points were to be added automatically for receiving provincial nominations.

New NOC 2021 Will Affect Canada Express Entry Eligibility

Following new changes in occupation-based immigration in Canada, 16 new occupations will be added as a part of Canada Express Entry eligibility. Presently, all occupational eligibility under Canadian temporary and permanent residency programs is done as per NOC 2016. It classifies occupations using skill levels. However, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are mandated to switch to the new Canada NOC 2021 which is based on academic and work experience.

study-abroad

Following the change in classifying occupations under the NOC system, any immigration aspirant with work experience in the following can also enter the Express Entry pool and stand a chance to obtain Canadian permanent residency.

  • Payroll administrators;
  • Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants;
  • Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates;
  • Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants;
  • Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants;
  • Sheriffs and bailiffs;
  • Correctional service officers;
  • By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers;
  • Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations;
  • Residential and commercial installers and servicers;
  • Pest controllers and fumigators;
  • Other repairers and services;
  • Transport truck drivers;
  • Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators;
  • Heavy equipment operators; and
  • Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors.

You can use this Statistics Canada tool to see how your current NOC corresponds with the new Canada NOC 2021.

About the New Canada NOC 2021

Canada will introduce the new occupation classification in November 2022.

Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is expected to align the new NOC rollout with the department of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to ensure consistency of Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications for work permits.

This ensures that foreign immigrants who specialize in emerging fields like data science, cyber security, and others get adequate opportunities to work & settle in Canada.

TEER system to replace NOC skill levels by November 2022

Presently, Canada uses NOC skills levels updated last in 2016. It classifies all occupations in Canada into four categories:

  • NOC 0: Skill type 0 jobs are usually managerial in nature;
  • NOC A: Skill type A jobs are professional in nature and usually require a university degree; or
  • NOC B: Skill type B jobs are skilled trades occupations that usually require a college diploma or training as an apprentice.
  • NOC C & D: Jobs include semi- and low-skilled workers in the trades, primary and manufacturing industries, sales and services, as well as certain clerical and assistant categories

Canada NOC 2021 introduces a new system of skill classification which will be based on the Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system.

Statistics Canada explains the rationale behind the new TEER system:

  1. Focus on the education and experience required to work in a given occupation.
  2. Accurately capture the skills required in each occupation.

The new TEER system classifies all occupations into six categories: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

TEER 0
  • Management occupations.
TEER 1
  • Completion of a university degree (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate); or
  • Several years of experience in a specific occupation from TEER category 2 (when applicable).
TEER 2
  • Completion of a post-secondary education program of two to three years at community college, institute of technology, or CÉGEP; or
  • Completion of an apprenticeship training program of two to five years; or
  • Occupations with supervisory or significant safety (police officers and firefighters) responsibilities; or
  • Several years of experience in a specific occupation from TEER category 3 (when applicable).
TEER 3
  • Completion of a post-secondary education program of fewer than two years at community college, institute of technology, or CÉGEP; or
  • Apprenticeship training of fewer than 2 years; or
  • More than six months of on-the-job training, training courses, or specific work experience with some secondary school education; or
  • Several years of experience in a specific occupation from TEER category 4 (when applicable).
TEER 4
  • Completion of secondary school; or
  • Several weeks of on-the-job training with some secondary school education; or
  • Several years of experience in a specific occupation from TEER category 5 (when applicable).
TEER 5
  • Short work demonstration and no formal educational requirements.

Latest Alberta PNP Draws Nominated 100 Express Entry Profiles For Canadian Permanent Residency

Immigration candidates registered in the federal Express Entry pool were targeted in the latest Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws held on May 19.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) issued a new round of invitations to 100 eligible Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nominations.

PNP News

The latest Alberta PNP draws targeted profiles registered in the federal Express Entry pool with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score above 382 points. The previous draw held on April 14 had a qualifying score of 356.

All the invited candidates are now one step closer to applying for permanent residence in Canada through the federal Express Entry system.

Alberta Express Entry Stream for Provincial Nominations

If you do not have a job offer in Canada yet and wish to immigrate for a better career and lifestyle, consider Alberta Express Entry Stream. This stream allows the province to search for and nominate foreign skilled workers who have submitted a profile using the federal Express Entry pool. A job offer is therefore not required.

To be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry Stream you will need to:

  • Have an active Express Entry profile;
  • Have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300;
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for one of the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC);

Canada PR Through Latest Alberta PNP Draws

The federal Express Entry system is an application management database to streamline federal immigration programs to issue Canadian permanent residency. It manages applicants under three federal programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),  the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Additionally, most PNPs have a dedicated stream to select desirable candidates for provincial nominations directly from the federal Express Entry pool.

The province is attracting Chemical Engineers, Metallurgical & Material Engineers, and Petroleum Engineers for Canada PR through the latest Alberta PNP draws.

There are two significant advantages of receiving a provincial nomination under AlNP:

  • Qualifying CRS score remains as low as 300, unlike any other provincial draws,
  • Those who receive the provincial nomination will automatically get an additional 600 CRS points added to their overall score.

All the registered profiles receive a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates get points for factors including their age, education, work experience, language ability in English or French, and others. The varying degree of scores will help the government determine a prospective immigrant to succeed in Canada’s labor market.

It means that candidates are effectively guaranteed an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the upcoming federal Express Entry draw. As a matter of fact, the latest Express Entry draws targeted 589 candidates with prior provincial nominations to apply for Canadian permanent residency.

Express Entry Latest Draws Invites 589 Provincial Nominees to Apply for Canada PR

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held a new Canada Express Entry draws on May 25. The federal department issued 589 invitations to provincial nominees or PNP candidates to apply for Canada PR. The Express Entry latest draws targeted domestic temporary workers or skilled workers in the federal pool who already received provincial nominations.

The draw size in the Express Entry latest draws was reduced significantly along with lower qualifying CRS score of 741. A tie-breaking rule was also applied in the latest Express Entry draw.

OVERVIEW OF EXPRESS ENTRY DRAWS #223
Record-breaking Draw Size 589 invitations to apply for Canada PR.
Lower Express Entry Cut-off The minimum CRS score required was 741.

Automatic addition of 600 points to their base human capital score, candidates effectively required only 141 points to qualify.

Tie-break rule applied? IRCC applies the tie-break rule to avoid disputes in the rankings under the express entry system. This is particularly helpful in cases where two or more candidates end up with the same CRS score.

No information about the tie-break rule was provided.

Anybody with work experience in popular in-demand occupations like Health, Business, Finance, Sales, or Engineering/IT has a good chance of qualifying for Canda PR.

Candidates in the Express Entry pool with provincial nominations are eligible for a bonus of 600 CRS points, effectively getting invited to apply for permanent residence in nominations draws like these.

When would be the next Express Entry Draw?

Since September last year, IRCC has only held Canada Express Entry draws for PNP candidates. This means that most Express Entry latest draws have ignored Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Canada Experience Class candidates.

IRCC conducts an Express Entry draw approximately once every 15 days. Going by the historic and recent draw dates, we can expect the next draw by 10th June 2022.

The federal immigration department is also expected will resume Express Entry Draws for FSWP & CEC in July 2022.

Canada is planning to introduce major changes to the Express Entry system. Canada Express Entry rounds could invite target profiles based on language or healthcare qualifications. Click here to learn more.

Is There a Possibility of Express Entry CRS Score Going Down?

In absolute terms, Canada made about 156,000 permanent residence decisions between January 1st and March 31, 2022. In addition, IRCC processed over 100,000 work permit applications in the first quarter of 2022, about 50 per cent more than the same period last year.

Canada is pursuing one of the most ambitious immigration levels in its history. The country is targeting to welcome 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023. This is most likely possible to achieve with a decrease in CRS scores.

IRCC has a history of surprises with dropping the CRS score to mere 75 points and inviting up to 27,332 candidates to apply for Canada PR on 13th February 2021.

How to Apply for Canada PR as Provincial Nominees?

Immigration aspirants choose Canada because of its direct permanent residence pathway. A PR invitation through the provincial nomination route is not a direct pathway, however, is very effective to secure your chances of applying for Canada PR.

Canada has decided to cut Express Entry admissions in half for 2022 mainly due to increasing backlogs in the FSWP & CEC applications in the pool. However, intake levels will increase up to 111,500 by 2024.

Any prospective candidate who seeks to obtain permanent residence in Canada must register on Canada Express Entry online portal.

All the registered profiles are then assessed and ranked based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Such profiles are evaluated on a total of 1200 points. The human capital criteria like

  • age,
  • education,
  • work experience outside Canada,
  • language proficiency in English/French,
  • spouse adaptability,
  • Canadian study experience, etc. are considered for evaluation purposes.

Canada Express Entry Rounds May Target Occupation-Specific Candidates

The Canadian government is regularly bringing in new changes to its immigration system to target the most eligible candidates to work & settle in the country. The latest change proposes to enhance the Canada Express Entry system. The country could target eligible profiles based on occupation, language or education in the future Express Entry rounds.

Presently, the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) do not have the ability to invite candidates from the Express Entry pool who have a particular work experience, educational credential, or language skills. The new amendments are proposed to division 23 of Bill C-19 which is currently being discussed in the Canadian parliament.

The official spokesperson from the office of the Immigration Minister was quoted saying, “Through our growing pool of candidates seeking to become permanent residents, this will allow IRCC to conduct targeted draws aimed at selecting those in the queue that have certain language skills or health care qualifications to name a few examples. This will be essential in addressing Canada’s labor shortages.

Statistics Canada reported over 800,000 job vacancies and Canadian employers are keen on addressing the talent shortage with the immigration of foreign skilled workers.

Canada Express Entry will continue to play a prominent role in the country’s immigration system and economy. Now that Express Entry is promising normalcy and most new applications will be processed within six months, employers will have better access to more foreign talent.

The parliamentary discussion on the proposed changes to Express Entry will be followed by clause-by-class consideration of the bill, which is scheduled to start on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m.

Advantages of Entering the Canada Express Entry Pool

Canada Express Entry is a database management system for permanent residency programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skills Trades Program (FSTP).

The FSWP is the main pathway to welcome skilled immigrants, while the CEC benefits temporary residents like international recent graduates with a minimum of one year of experience to qualify for PR via Canada Express Entry.

Invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residency invitations to FSWP candidates have been temporarily paused since December 2020. Since September 2021, Canada has not issued any ITA for CEC candidates as well.

Resuming invitations for these two programs is likely to benefit thousands of eligible candidates with the opportunity to obtain Canadian permanent residence. Some noticeable advantages of entering the Canada Express Entry rounds ahead of July 2022 are:

  • Permanent residency applications will be processed within six months.
  • Fortnightly Canada Express Entry draws keeps your chances high for provincial nominations

Scheduled PEI PNP Draws Nominate 153 Profiles To Apply For Canadian Immigration

The maritime province of Canada, Prince Edward Island (PEI) held its scheduled Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) draw on May 20. This is the first PEI PNP of 2022 and resulted in 153 invitations to apply (ITA) for provincial nominations. All the invitees were targeted under all three provincial streams: Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact.

PEI has been one of the most consistent provinces in 2021 after British Columbia & Manitoba is holding their provincial nomination draws. In fact, PEI is the only maritime province in Eastern Canada that releases its draw schedule for the rest of the year in advance.

Apart from provincial streams, federal programs can also help you settle in the province. Prince Edward Island is a part of the federal Atlantic immigration program and the federal government is looking to invite over 6,000 candidates every year to apply for Canadian immigration through the program.

May 20 PEI PNP Draw: Highlights

Since the launch of the federal Express Entry system in 2015, all the immigration streams under Canada PNP are categorized into two: ‘enhanced’ provincial streams and ‘base’ nomination streams.

A total of 137 invitations went to Express Entry and Labour Impact categories.

In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI, candidates must create an Expression Of Interest (EOI) profile with the PEI PNP. EOI profiles are given points based on the province’s unique points grid. The highest-scoring candidates are then invited to apply through monthly draws.

If a candidate is already registered in the federal Express Entry pool, they could qualify for provincial nomination under the PEI PNP Express Entry category.

Foreigners like Skilled Workers, Critical Workers, and International Graduates with a valid job offer in PEI, and having support from their employer may qualify under the Labour Impact category.

The remaining 16 invitations went to applicants under the Business Impact category.

Such candidates are issued invitations under the Work Permit Stream, which is for foreign entrepreneurs who want to own and operate a business in PEI. They required a provincial score of above 62 points in order to receive nominations.

Most previous draws this year had a qualifying score of above 80 points.

The Provincial Nominee Program pathway is considered the second-best alternative to Express Entry to obtain permanent residence.

Provincial Nominee Programs are designed to accommodate the specific and specialized labor market demand of Canada’s provinces and territories. A successful provincial nomination will improve the scope to obtain permanent residence in a quick time.

Currently, top in-demand jobs in Prince Edward Island include:

  • Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012);
  • Dental hygienists and dental therapists (NOC 3222);
  • Licensed practical nurses (NOC 3233);
  • Information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171);
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174);
  • User support technicians (NOC 2282)
  • Homebuilding and renovation managers (NOC 0712)
  • Managers in agriculture (NOC 0821)

Further, fulfilling the predetermined residence requirement in Canada, eligible candidates can apply with the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

The next PEI PNP draw is expected for June 16, 2022.

Latest British Columbia PNP Draw Issues 175 Invitations to Apply for Canadian Immigration

British Columbia PNP draw held the latest round of nominations on May 17 resulting in over 175 new invitations to apply for Canadian immigration. The westernmost province invited a majority of profiles through the Tech stream in addition to an entrepreneur stream draw and two occupation-specific draws supporting the health and education sector.

All invited profiles either had prior skilled work experience or international graduates with study experience in Canada and were already registered in one of the BC immigration streams to receive the provincial nominations.

British Columbia PNP draw: general stream

The first British Columbia PNP draw issued a total of 154 invitations to apply for provincial nominations that could lead to Canadian permanent residency. All these profiles had to have a qualifying score of 77 and 123 points under the British Columbia PNP general stream.

Some in-demand tech occupations in the British Columbia include

  • Web designers & developers
  • Graphic designers, and illustrators
  • Software engineers and designers
  • Civil Engineers
  • Mechanical Engineers
  • Chemical Engineers
  • Software Engineers
  • Tech Managers

British Columbia PNP draw: occupation-specific draws

The second occupation-specific British Columbia PNP draw targeted two specific occupations:

  • 21 early childhood educators (NOC 4214) with scores of at least 62;
  • unspecified number of healthcare professionals with scores of at least 62; in addition to this, the latest British Columbia PNP draw also invited nurses aides, orderlies, and patient service associates.

The provincial nominee program’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) manages applications under the two skilled immigration programs. Registration and profile assessment based on education, work experience, and language skills form the core selection criteria.

Apply for Canadian Immigration via Provincial Nominee Program

Canadian immigration means a pathway to obtain permanent residency. The “two-step migration” process is now the most preferable pathway for economic-class immigrants to apply for Canadian immigration.

In fact, the recent Express Entry draws targeted 545 candidates with prior provincial nominations. All the invites had a minimum CRS score of 753. It meant that they required only 153 points to score on CRS to qualify! The remaining 600 points were to be added automatically for receiving provincial nominations.

So far, British Columbia PNP draws have issued about 3,400 invitations to apply for provincial nominations. With the latest immigration levels plan for 2022, Canada PNPs are targeting to land about 83,500 newcomers this year.

Proposed Bill Could Improve Canada Super Visa for Parents & Grandparents to Stay Longer

The member of Canadian parliament Kyle Seeback is proposing a new bill to improve the way immigrant parents & grandparents come to Canada. The proposed bill C-242 could bring positive changes to Canada Super Visa.

Canada Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of permanent residents or newly acquired Canadian citizens to visit without having to renew their status. The visas permit multiple entries to Canada over the course of time, presently 10 years.

Much like other Canadian family sponsorship visa programs, Canadians are required to meet minimum income criteria. The parents & grandparents are required to have medical insurance issued by a Canadian company.

Three Changes Proposed to Canada Super Visa

If passed, the bill may allow parents and grandparents to stay for five consecutive years without having to renew their visas, instead of two years presently. The mandatory requirement of purchasing medical insurance from a Canadian insurer could be done away with.

This would allow Canada Super Visa applicants to purchase insurance from other countries, saving them thousands of dollars in insurance costs per year. It could be possible as Canada has a framework for determining which international doctors can give medical clearance certificates. A similar kind of framework could ensure foreign insurers cover the medical costs of their insurees.

Finally, the government could also reduce the threshold income requirements for Canadians wishing to host their parents and grandparents.

As of today, the proposed bill has passed its first and second readings and is now being studied by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration. The committee conducts studies and makes recommendations to guide immigration policy.

Kyle Seeback is a member of the Conservative Party and also a member of the same Standing Committee. The philosophy behind proposing this bill can be summarized in a few words,

“The view of bringing a parent or a grandparent to stay with you is an economic burden is wrong,” Seeback said, “What I actually found… is that when a parent or grandparent comes it enhances the economic well-being of that family… It can be that they’re providing some reduction of daycare costs because the parent or grandparent is there to help with the family.

Immigration to Canada is also possible with family members such as spouses and dependent children. Read our blog on guide to spousal immigration to Canada from the UAE to learn more.

IRCC Yet to Invite Applications for the Parents & Grandparent Program (PGP) 2022

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are yet to decide on opening the application process this year for the Canada family sponsorship visa. Canada is aiming to welcome 25,000 immigrant applications for PGP 2022. Additionally, 60,000 immigrants under the Parents and Grandparents Program will be targeted over the next two years.

About the Parents and Grandparents Program – Canada Family Sponsorship Visa 2022
