    Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP)

    The OINP program facilitates the Canadian immigration process of managerial, professional, and skilled workers and international students who aspire to become permanent residents of Canada and fill the human resource demand in the country.

    This is another provincial-level program operated by the provincial and the federal government under the federal immigration department – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

    OINP functions through 4 streams in which efficient candidates can apply for permanent residence.

    • Human Capital Stream
    • Employer Job Offer Stream
    • Business Immigration Stream
    • Ontario Express Entry

    To apply through these streams, you need to come under either of the following criteria:

    • You should have studied in Canada.
    • You must be an efficient marketer.
    • You should be proficient in French and English.
    • You must have a job offer in Ontario.
    • You plan to establish a business in Ontario.
    • You should have scored above 400 in your Express Entry.

    Here’s a description of all the streams that OINP provides for you to become a permanent resident in Ontario. Give it a read and choose the stream that suits you best.

    1. Human Capital Category

    The Human Capital category consists of 2 streams:

    1. Master’s Graduate Stream

    This stream is for applicants who have completed a Master’s degree in Ontario. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

    • You don’t require a job offer.
    • You should have scored at least a 7 as your CLB on all language tests.
    • You should either be living in Ontario or anywhere in Canada.
    • You must have lived in Ontario for at least a year in the past 2 years.
    • You should apply wit of 2 years of completing your Master’s degree.
    • You must state your financial resources to settle in Ontario.
    • You are not eligible to apply if you’re pursuing further studies unless you’re working as a full-time employee.
    • You should have completed at least a year of Master’s degree from any Ontario institution.

    2. Ph.D. Graduate Stream

    This stream is for individuals who have completed a doctorate in Ontario. If you’re looking to apply through this stream, you should meet the following eligibility criteria.

    • You don’t require a job offer.
    • You must state your financial resources to settle in Ontario.
    • You should apply wit of 2 years of completing your doctorate.
    • You must have lived in Ontario for at least a year in the past 2 years.
    • You should have completed a Ph.D. degree from any Ontario institution and completed 2 years of the demands of living in Ontario.

    2. Employer Job Offer Stream

    The Employer Job Offer stream contains 3 categories for individuals seeking employment in Ontario.

    1. Foreign Worker Category

    This category is for applicants who have a job offer in an Ontario-based organization. To meet the eligibility criteria for this category, you should:

    • Have at least 2 years of work experience within 5 years under the same job role.
    • Contain a valid immigration status if you’re applying from inside Canada.
    • Have been offered full-time employment under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 by an Ontario employer.

    The eligibility criteria for an employer are:

    • You must provide proof of efforts to hire regional applicants if the candidate is not working in Ontario.
    • You must have a physical business space in Ontario for a minimum of 3 years.
    • You should adhere to the regulations of the Province.
    • If your business is actuated in Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 1 million or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 5 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
    • If your business is actuated outside Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 500,000 or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 3 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.

    2. International Student Category

    This category is for applicants who have pursued a course in Canada and have an employment offer in Ontario. To meet the demands of this category you should:

    • Apply within 2 years of finishing your studies.
    • Be offered a job as a full-time employee under NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 by an Ontario employer.
    • You should have pursued a degree or a diploma for 2 years from a Canadian Institution.

    The eligibility criteria for an employer are:

    • You must have a physical business space in Ontario for a minimum of 3 years.
    • You should adhere to the regulations of the Province.
    • If your business is actuated in Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 1 million or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 5 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
    • If your business is actuated outside Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 500,000 or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 3 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
    • You must submit proof of efforts to hire regional applicants if the job-seeker is not presently working in Ontario.

    3. In-Demand Skills Category

    The In-Demand Skills category is for people who have an employment offer in Ontario of positions that are listed under the In-demand Skills category.

    If you’re an applicant for this category, here’s a list of criteria that you must meet:

    1. Your job should come under any one of the following NOCs in Ontario:

    • NOC 44101 – Home support workers, caregivers, and related occupations
    • NOC 75110 – Construction trades helpers and laborers
    • NOC 84120 – Specialized livestock workers and farm machinery operators
    • NOC 85100 – Livestock laborers
    • NOC 85101 – Harvesting laborers
    • NOC 85103 – Nursery and greenhouse laborers
    • NOC 94141 – Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers, and related workers
    • NOC 65202 – Meat cutters and fishmongers – retail and wholesale

    2. Your job should come under any one of the following NOCs outside Greater Toronto:

    • NOC 94100 – machine operators, mineral, and metal processing
    • NOC 94105 – metalworking and forging machine operators
    • NOC 94106 – machining tool operators
    • NOC 94107 – machine operators and other metal products
    • NOC 94110 – chemical plant machine operators
    • NOC 95102 – laborers in chemical products processing and utilities
    • NOC 94111 – plastic processing machine operators
    • NOC 94124 – woodworking machine operators
    • NOC 94132 – industrial sewing machine operators
    • NOC 94140 – process control and machine operators, food and beverage processing
    • NOC 94201 – electronics assemblers, fabricators, inspectors, and testers
    • NOC 94204 – mechanical assemblers and inspectors
    • NOC 94213 – industrial painters, coaters, and metal finishing process operators
    • NOC 94219 – other products assemblers, finishers, and inspectors

    3. Your scores should be a minimum of 4 as your CLB on language test results.

    4. You must have pursued an education corresponding to a Canadian High School diploma.

    5. You should have a valid immigration status if you’re planning to apply from inside Canada.

    6.If you’re an employer, you must meet the following criteria:

    • You must have a physical business space in Ontario for a minimum of 3 years.
    • YYou should adhere to the regulations of the Province.
    • YIf your business is actuated in Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 1 million or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 5 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
    • YIf your business is actuated outside Greater Toronto, you should have a minimum of CAD 500,000 or more as your gross annual revenue with at least 3 full-time employees who are permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
    • YYou must submit proof of efforts to hire regional applicants if the job-seeker is not presently working in Ontario.

    3. Business Immigration Stream

    The Business Immigration stream in Ontario is for entrepreneurs who desire to buy an existing business or start a new business that contributes to the economic benefit of Ontario. This stream operates through the Expression of Interest system. Applicants who are interested in this stream are ranked based on the selection criteria to analyze who is eligible to apply for nomination. The eligibility criteria for the applicant are:

    • Your scores should be at least 4 as your CLB on a valid language test.
    • Have at least 2 years of work experience within 5 years as a business owner or a senior manager.
    • If your business is situated in the Greater Toronto area, you should contain a minimum net worth of CAD 800,000, personally invest at least CAD 600,000, and provide full-time employment for at least 2 Canadians.
    • If your business is situated outside the Greater Toronto Area or within the ICT/Digital Communications sector, you should contain a minimum net worth of CAD 400,000, personally invest at least CAD 200,000, Take 33 ⅓% of the ownership in the business, and provide full-time employment to at least 1 Canadian.
    • You should be residing in Ontario for at least 9 months in a year and your business should be active and operate daily.
    • Your business should result in good profit.

    If you’re taking over an existing business in Ontario, you must come under the following criteria:

    • You must at least make 1 business visit to Ontario within a year of registering with the OINP.
    • You should take complete ownership of the business you purchased.
    • You should at least invest 10% to enhance and develop your business.
    • You must operate continuously under the same principles followed by previous owners.
    • You must create new job roles if required for your business.
