Canada Updates Express Entry Proof of Funds Criteria For FSWP & CEC Draws

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced its yearly update on the revised Express Entry proof of fund requirement which became effective from April 25, 2023.

Any immigrant willing to enter the federal Express Entry pool must disclose the proof of settlement funds to apply for Canadian permanent residency under the Express Entry system.

Canada Pnp-finder

The announcement also made it clear for the existing applicants in the federal pool to update their proof of funds documents with the latest amounts.

Typically candidates with no Canadian job offer are subjected to furnish the details of the below-tabulated amounts to qualify for an invitation to apply for permanent residency.

Total Number of Family Members  Minimum Funds Required in CAD – PREVIOUS Minimum Funds Required in CAD – CURRENT
One $13,310 $13,757
Two  $16,570 $17,127
Three $20,371 $21,055
Four $24,733 $25,564
Five $28,052 $28,994
Six $31,638 $32,700
Seven $35,224 $36,407
Each additional family member $3,586 $3,706

Express Entry proof of funds is only applicable to candidates without a job offer in Canada and qualifying for two out of three immigration programs under Express Entry: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Those with a job offer in Canada or qualifying under Canada Experience Class (CEC) are not required to disclose settlement funds.

In case of applicability of tie-break rules, updating Express Entry profiles will not change the date and time of when Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received the profile. Applicants will keep their previous rank.

What is Express Entry Proof of Funds?

Written proof of settlement funds will have to submit to IRCC after receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency.

According to the official page, the most important Express Entry proof of funds is an official letter from your bank or financial institution. The letter must typically contain the following:

  • be printed on the financial institution’s letterhead;
  • include the institution’s address, phone number, and email;
  • include your name;
  • list outstanding debts such as credit card debts and loans; and
  • include, for each bank and investment account, the actual numbers, the date each account was opened, the current balance of each account, and the average balance for the past six months.

Also, ensure that disclosed funds are readily available at the time of applying for Canadian permanent residence and above the minimum requirement. The disclosed amount cannot be in the form of borrowed funds or equity. In case of being accompanied by your spouse, money could be in a joint account.

Provincial Nominations To Qualify For Canada PR

Yet another month passed by and Canada immigration remained upbeat with provincial programs issuing nominations to eligible candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

The unique arrangement between the federal and provincial/territorial governments in Canada allows the nomination of foreign candidates separately based on the unique labor demand of each province. Later on, these provincial nominations allow eligible candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Canadian provinces such as Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Islands, Saskatchewan had remained active by conducting nomination draws to invite eligible candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. Thereon, getting a permanent residence in Canada becomes easier.

Canada’s commendable response to COVID-19 crisis tells why it is the best country to live in

The COVID-19 pandemic has unsettled the global economic, political and social scenarios in unprecedented ways, demanding concrete and immediate action from the governments to reduce the impact. According to a survey conducted by Deep Knowledge Group, Canada’s response to COVID-19 is ranked among the top 15 in the world. Deep Knowledge Group, a consortium of commercial and non-profit organizations, studied the response of more than 150 countries based on 78 different parameters. Canada has 13th rank in the report, preceded by Austria in the 12th place and Switzerland in the 11th. Canada is way ahead of the United States, which is in the 70th spot.

Canada’s Economic Response Plan

The COVID-19 Economic Response Plan of Canada provides around $100 billion as financial aid to the businesses, families and individuals affected by the crisis. As of April, 6 million Canadians have applied for Canada Emergency Response Benefit(CERB). Under the scheme, the Canadians who are financially affected by the pandemic would receive $500 per week for up to 16 weeks. The CERB is the cornerstone of the COVID-19 Economic Response Plan of Canada. It includes a new loan program for businesses and deferred deadlines for the payment of taxes. Besides the federal plan, 10 of the Canadian provinces have also announced their respective individual rescue packages to support the businesses and individuals affected by the crisis.

Pnp finder

Benefits for workers

A number of benefits are available for workers under the relief plan of Canada. The most important relief scheme for them is the Canada Emergency Response Benefit(CERB), under which the workers who lose their income because of the COVID-19 crisis will receive $2000 a month for upto four months. Even those candidates who are not eligible for Employment Insurance(EI) payments are covered under the CERB scheme. The scheme also covers workers who have lost their jobs, those who are sick or quarantined or taking care of someone suffering from COVID-19. Further, working parents who have to stay home to take care of their children because of school and daycare closures can also be benefited from the scheme.

Further, the government has waived one-week waiting period to claim sickness benefits under Employment Insurance(EI)for those who are in imposed quarantine. The workers need not provide a medical certificate to enjoy these benefits.

Residential, farm and small commercial customers can request to defer their bill payments for electricity and natural gas for the next 90 days and the services will not be cut off.

Families

Canada is a country that gives high importance to families and the government has announced a number of relief measures for the families affected by the COVID-19 crisis. The government is providing a one-time special payment through the Goods and Services Tax Credit(GSTC) for low and modest-income families. As a result, the maximum annual GSTC payment amounts will double for the 2019-20 benefit year. So the maximum one-time payment for a single individual will be $443 and for couples, it will be $580.

For families with children, the government has increased the maximum annual Canada Child Benefit(CCB) amounts up to $300 per child for the benefit year of 2019-20 with their regular May 2020 payment. In effect, a single parent with two children with a low or modest income would receive close to $1,500 as additional short-term support.

In addition, the Canada government will increase the Canada Child Benefit(CCB) this year too as in the previous years. The increase will come into effect in July and is expected to provide relief to the families affected financially by the pandemic. As a result, families would get a maximum yearly benefit of $6,765 per child under the age of 6 and $5,708 per child between the age of 6 and 17.

Benefits for international students

The international students who need to extend their stay in Canada during this period are eligible for implied status. It means they may continue to work or study in Canada on their original permit during the period till the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) takes a decision on their work/study permit extension application.

In normal terms, international students are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week. The government has lifted this restriction and students working in 10 priority sectors that are helping to fight COVID-19 can work for more than 20 hours per week until August 31. Further, international students who meet the CERB’s eligibility criteria can also receive income support from the government. The international students with work experience in Canada stand in advantage as Canada is increasingly targeting immigration candidates with Canadian experience in the Express Entry draws.

Canada is also extending various support measures to businessmen and entrepreneurs to withstand this tough period.

With its extensive COVID-19 relief measures, Canada has once again proved the country’s commitment towards the welfare of its citizens and residents. The privileges and benefits which the Canadian enjoy explain why Canada remains the most popular destination for immigration. British Columbia: The dreamland of Canada immigration aspirants

The province of British Columbia, located in the westernmost part of Canada, is known worldwide for its rich natural beauty. The beautiful beaches, mountains, and vast expanses of wilderness make the province the favorite destination of travelers. But when it comes to Canadian immigration aspirants, the multiculturalism prevailing in the province and high living standards are the factors that make British Columbia an ideal place to settle down. One-third of the total population of British Columbia comprises those who migrated from different parts of the world. Victoria is the capital of the province, and Vancouver is the most populous city. The British Columbia program offers numerous opportunities for those seeking to establish themselves in this diverse and vibrant region.

British Columbia, by any parameter, is the best place to work, study and live. The province has a strong and diversified economy and offers numerous career opportunities to its residents.

BC PNP

Now let’s look into the major factors that make British Columbia a favorite place for immigrants.

High living standards:

Canada is one of the countries in the world with the highest standards of living. It is the high living standards themselves that make British Columbia a favorite place for immigrants.

Better healthcare:

The residents of British Columbia have an exclusive healthcare program named the Medical Services Plan (MSP). British Columbia ensures the best healthcare for those who have enrolled in this plan and their family members.

High wages and other benefits:

Workers in British Columbia earn comparatively higher salaries. Employers also offer various healthcare and other benefits to employees. However, a person’s salary will depend on their job, educational qualifications and work experience.

Multiculturalism:

British Columbia is a place where people coming from diverse cultural backgrounds live together. The province has students, visitors and permanent residents from different parts of the world living here. That makes British Columbia a place of cultural diversity.

Many opportunities:

British Columbia has many job opportunities in different industrial sectors.

Security:

The crime rate is very low in British Columbia, and the laws are also very strong. This makes the province a good place to work and live safely.

It is estimated that around 903,000 new jobs will be created in British Columbia in the next 20 years. Of these, around 77% of jobs would require education qualifications above the secondary level. British Columbia is promoting the migration of skilled workers as their contributions are necessary for the economic development of the province.

One important thing that has to be noted here is that for skilled workers to migrate to British Columbia, they must have received a permanent job offer from an employer in the province. Most of the immigration programs for skilled workers under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) require the candidates to register their profiles with the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) of British Columbia. In order to do that, the candidate must have received a job offer from a British Columbia employer.

The major pathways for moving to British Columbia permanently are as follows:

Skills Immigration:

The pathway is for those workers skilled in the occupations that are in high demand in British Columbia. This is a system that selects eligible candidates on the basis of a points system and invites them to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada. The application and registration processes are completely online.

Express Entry BC:

Express Entry BC helps eligible skilled workers move to British Columbia in a fast-track manner. To be eligible under this pathway, the candidates must prove themselves eligible for one of the federal economic immigration programs as well. The eligibility of the candidate is decided on the basis of a points system. Though work experience in British Columbia is not necessary, the required level of work experience is mandatory for candidates. They must also meet the eligibility requirements in relation to education and language.

British Columbia Tech Pilot:

The British Columbia Tech Pilot program is an immigration pathway that aims to make available the skills of foreign workers for initiatives in the tech sector of the province. To be eligible, the candidate must have received a job offer from a British Columbia employer in one of the 29 eligible occupations under the program. The job offer must have a duration of at least one year, and the Express Entry profile of the candidate must be valid for at least 120 more days at the time of submitting the application.

Entrepreneur Immigration:

The Regional Pilot Program of British Columbia is for those who wish to start a new business in the regional communities of British Columbia.

Opportunities galore for immigrants in Alberta

Alberta is one of the favorite destinations in Canada for immigrants from across the world. A strong economy, numerous job opportunities, and beautiful landscapes are some of the factors that make this western province of Canada popular among immigrants. Edmonton and Calgary, two of the major cities in Canada, are located in Alberta. The province is rich in natural resources such as natural gas, oil, coal, and minerals, and Alberta is popularly known as the energy province of Canada. The Alberta Provincial Nominee program offers pathways for immigrants seeking opportunities in the province.

The fast-growing technology sector of Alberta promises numerous job opportunities for skilled and educated foreign workers. Besides, the Alberta authorities also take special care to sustain a favourable environment for foreign entrepreneurs, who are capable of creating new jobs for Albertans, to migrate to the province. The provincial government also has floated several programs to help newcomers integrate well to the Alberta community. Further, Alberta attracts unskilled labourers to cater to the demand for labour in rural areas of the province.

A major attractive factor of Alberta for immigrants is its low unemployment rate. High-paying job opportunities, low tax rates, an economy with high growth rate and better living standards are the other important factors that make Alberta an attractive destination.

Alberta provincial nominee program

Canada government allows Alberta to invite a certain number of immigrants to apply for provincial nomination every year. The province invites potential immigrants with the skills and qualifications to contribute towards the growth of the country’s economy through the Alberta Immigrants Nominee Program(AINP). The program has three major immigration pathways under it:

  • Alberta Express Entry stream
  • Alberta Opportunity stream
  • Alberta self-employed farmer stream

Alberta Express Entry stream

Those who have already created a profile with the federal Express Entry system may apply for provincial nomination from Alberta through the Alberta Express Entry stream. The stream allows the province to select eligible candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination. To be selected by Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program this way, the candidate must have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score of at least 300 points.

Those candidates with a job offer from an Alberta employer, work experience in the province, a degree obtained from a higher education institution in Alberta or close relatives residing in the province have higher chances of obtaining invitation to apply for provincial nomination from Alberta.

Those who accept this invitation and successfully apply for provincial nomination would receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points. This helps them obtain an invitation to apply from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(CRS) for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent federal Express Entry draw.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

A person residing temporarily in Alberta with a work permit in an eligible occupation may apply for provincial nomination through Alberta Opportunity Stream. The applicant must have language proficiency equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 in English or French to be eligible under this stream. Further, the applicant needs to have obtained a job offer from an Alberta employer.

Self-employed Farmer Stream

Those with knowledge and experience in farming may apply for provincial nomination from Alberta through Self-employed Farmer Stream. The candidate must have a minimum personal net worth of $500,000 and willingness to invest at least the same amount in Canada.
